Dirt Cake Recipe

My mom makes the best dirt cake on the planet.  I used to request it every year for my birthday and she used to make it in a flower pot with fake flowers and little gummy worms.  I miss those days…One time a friend told me that we were eating dirt cake at her house.  It was just Oreo crumbs and chocolate pudding – not even close to the same thing!

Luckily, my mom gave me her recipe for the good stuff. Honestly, the recipe itself kind of freaked me out.  I mean, the original recipe called for 1 stick oleo?  Really?  You know it’s an old family recipe when they still call for oleo!  But, it tastes just as good as I remember it!

My little cakes aren’t nearly as cool as my mom’s were, but I wanted to be able to see the layers of the dessert, so I figured this was the perfect opportunity to dust off our wine glasses. And, since Halloween is coming up, Dirt Cake seemed to fit the holiday theme! It would be fun to create a little graveyard with little graham cracker tombstones, but that didn’t occur to me until I started writing the post, so…I didn’t do that yet. 🙂

Thanks for sharing! I'm looking forward to making this tomorrow for Halloween. Like Tishia up there I'm not a huge fan of the regular chocolate pudding kind but this seems like it'll be much better!

Mmmm... I didn't like the oreos and chocolate pudding version, but this one looks worth a try! The cream cheese convinced me. ;)
