In this episode of Taste for Truth, Barb Raveling & I chat about my 100-pound weight loss journey, faith, & overcoming obstacles.
About a year ago, I came across Barb Raveling’s book, I Deserve A Donut (And Other Lies That Make You Eat) and the title alone completely captured my attention (because the thought “I deserve a donut” has probably crossed my mind approximately 4.3 million times in my life).
Then a health coaching client of mine raved about her Freedom from Emotional Eating: A Weight Loss Bible Study book.
So, as you can imagine, I was absolutely giddy with excitement when an email from her popped up in my inbox, asking me to be a guest on her show Taste for Truth, a podcast for Christian weight loss encouragement!
Barb not only has a ton of knowledge about weight loss, but she also has a heart for running to God in your weight loss journey (something we definitely have in common!).
One of the things I love about Barb is that she really focuses on renewing your mind. It’s so easy to just focus on all of the physical stuff in weight loss. We look to the scale, BMI charts, supplements, shakes, exercise equipment, and pills to shed the extra pounds. We hope that if we just diet long enough or exercise hard enough that the weight will come off and our weight struggles will be solved.
But, really, all of those decisions about healthy living – our food choices, our exercise choices, our sleep decisions…they all start with our mindset. If our thoughts are off, our choices will be off, too. It’s just the way it works. Taking the time to really get to the root of the problem by renewing your mind and filling your thoughts with God’s Truths can be so incredibly powerful.
