She has expensive tastes, a free faith challenge for your weight loss journey, he shouldn’t have been late, how exercise became a reward (so weird), this adult coloring book trend, and possibly my favorite time of year.
Every week, I make time to connect with the most important people in my life. I have small group, weekly family dinner, Monday phone dates with my best friend, and Skype dates with my prayer partner.
Which is why I want to have a Friday virtual coffee date with you.
I would absolutely love to meet you in person and hear about the ups and downs and in-betweens of your life, but since that’s difficult to manage, the next best thing would be for you to leave me a comment or shoot me an email. I really do care about what’s going on with you! I have an ongoing list in my prayer journal of blog readers who have reached out to me sharing struggles, successes, and just everyday life stuff and I love all of it!
Here’s what’s been going on in my world.
My niece turned 8 last week (how has it been 8 years since I first held that sweet little newborn girl?!).
She had a Chuck. E. Cheese party to celebrate with her friends and they all had a blast!
And then we celebrated with the family this weekend. She got to request the meal she wanted.
She chose steak and baked potatoes.
For an 8-year-old, that girl has expensive tastes (but not really because she eats almost everything happily these days).
My brother-in-law is pretty much the master of all desserts (especially homemade cheesecakes), but he decided to tackle the cake decorating this time.
He baked her a two-layer strawberry cake with strawberry preserve filling (so good!), and then he drew the Pink Panther freehand!
Well, okay, he turned out to be the Purple Panther, but I was still really impressed and my niece loved it so it was definitely a win.
After dinner, we all headed outside to enjoy the beautiful Colorado Spring weather.
I’ve been back for 2 years now, but after 7 years of living in Tucson, far away from my family in Colorado, I am soaking up all of the time I get to spend with them.
I love being able to be here for birthdays, graduations, school plays, Mother’s Day, and weekly family dinners.
Grow Your Faith, Lose The Weight
I’ve spent the last couple weeks working on writing this free 5-day challenge and I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally be able to tell you about it!
This challenge is not about drinking more water, exercising, or eating more vegetables.
It’s a faith-based, grace-focused time for drawing nearer to God in your weight loss journey.
The challenge runs from May 21st through May 25th, but you can sign up now!
This Is What Happens When Adam Is Late
Adam was coming to see me last Saturday, but when I asked what time he was thinking he would get here, he was in a hurry and texted what time he was leaving Denver instead (which meant he was still over an hour away).
When he realized his mistake, he called and apologized.
A few minutes later, I sent him a picture of my sister’s puppy, Strider, with his paws all over me and the message, “You’re too late. There’s another man in my life now.”
Marrying him is going to be so fun (Adam, not Strider).
Exercise Became A Reward (Weird)
I have been hard at work on writing the Grow Your Faith, Lose The Weight challenge all week, which means I have spent a lot of time sitting at my computer.
When I finally finished putting it all together, I was so excited to take a break!
You know what I wanted to do most?
Get outside and take the dog for a walk.
Sometimes, I don’t even recognize myself.
I wish you guys could have known the girl I was for most of my life.
I really, really hated walking.
TV and junk food were the only rewards I cared about.
And now I am willingly choosing to exercise and I genuinely enjoy it!
Here’s what I think (part of) the difference is these days:
It’s not about the exercise. I go outside to walk because it’s a break from staring at a computer screen, sunshine makes me happy, I usually feel more energy after moving and being outside, and sitting all day makes my lower back hurt (and, of course, I know I’m burning calories, which is always a good thing).
It also feeds my introvert side to get outside. When I’m at my computer, I feel very accessible and there are always emails, comments, and Facebook messages coming in. Outside, I can silence my phone and just…be.
It’s a beautiful thing.
The Adult Coloring Book Trend
My nephew and I did some serious coloring this week and I get how this has become such a stress-relieving trend for adults.
I get a little productivity-obsessed (that may be an understatement), so stopping to focus on something as low-key as coloring for awhile was such a nice stress reliever.
There was no rush, no deadline, no need to hurry.
I don’t know if I’d have the discipline to sit and do it by myself (because there are always so many things waiting to be done!), but I sure enjoy coloring with my favorite 5-year-old.
Possibly My Favorite Time Of Year
I have had a headache for almost two weeks straight now, which is pretty strange for me because I almost never get headaches anymore.
But, for whatever reason, it’s here and not going away.
Last weekend, Adam I went to the park to finish the last chapter in our pre-marital book and it was especially bad, so I ended up laying my head in his lap and having him rest the book on my forehead to block the sun while he read to me.
Even though the headache didn’t go away, it was the most relaxed I’ve been in ages!
Flowers were blooming everywhere so it smelled fantastic. I could hear birds chirping and the stream gently babbling, and it was the perfect temperature outside.
I always think summer is my favorite season, but this might just be my favorite time of year.
What’s New With You?
Enough about me, I want to hear about YOU.
If you could choose any meal you wanted for your birthday, what would it be?
What was the best thing that happened to you this week?
How do you bring more laughter into your marriage or friendships?
Do you ever use walks as a reward?
Have you jumped onto the adult coloring book trend?
