A beautiful bridal shower, apparently 80% of all cats are named Bella, the first meal cooked in our new house, the healthy summer snack I go crazy for, the shirt size I wore as a 10-year-old, an early wedding present, and I’m already realizing how quirky I am (poor Adam).
Every week, I make time to connect with the most important people in my life. I have small group, weekly family dinner, Monday phone dates with my best friend, and Skype dates with my prayer partner.
Which is why I want to have a Friday virtual coffee date with you.
I would absolutely love to meet you in person and hear about the ups and downs and in-betweens of your life, but since that’s difficult to manage, the next best thing would be for you to leave me a comment or shoot me an email. I really do care about what’s going on with you! I have an ongoing list in my prayer journal of blog readers who have reached out to me sharing struggles, successes, and just everyday life stuff and I love all of it!
Here’s what’s been going on in my world.
A Beautiful Bridal Shower
Last weekend, my wonderful small group ladies threw me the most beautiful bridal shower. They had each taken on a part of the shower – decorations, food, favors, activities. They never cease to amaze me!
My mom, sister, and two of my aunts were able to come, which was such a blessing.
Every detail was amazing, from the chalkboard welcome sign to all of the fancy, fun food.
And they know me so well! The favors were wooden cooking utensils and a kitchen towel with a recipe for a happy marriage – so sweet!
And the food was incredible. Mimosas with fresh berries, adorable little olive and cheese kabobs, a veggie tray, a build your own fruit pizza station, and this B-52 cake that was picture perfect and out of this world delicious!
Instead of doing traditional games, everyone filled out cards giving me advice and blessings and they also had a canvas with my name in the middle and had people write words that they think describe me. By the end, I had: sparkly, positive, beloved, thoughtful, creative, reflective, loving, upbeat, dedicated, radiant, resilient, intelligent, open, honest, and spirited.
Every gift was so thoughtful and I just couldn’t be more thankful for the wonderful women in my life.
80% Of All Cats Must Be Named Bella
Adam’s cat is loving the whole moving-in process because boxes and packing paper are everywhere, giving her the ideal kitten playground (or in her case, a variety of material to nap and chew on).
My sister’s cat’s name is Bella, so that has already been a bit of a confusing thing and the other night we found out one of our new neighbor’s cats is also named Bella.
Now I’m just convinced 80% of the world’s cats must be named Bella.
The First Meal Cooked In Our New House
I still have sooo many boxes of kitchen stuff to unpack (anyone who knows me knows I have an insane amount of kitchen appliances, accessories, and baking supplied).
But I have enough unpacked to be able to cook now! I’ve still been sleeping at my sister’s house, but I’ve been spending my days at the new house working and unpacking, so I’ve been able to make Adam dinner after work.
The first meal cooked in the new kitchen was Instant Pot ground turkey whole wheat spaghetti with roasted carrots.
The Healthy Summer Snack I Go Crazy For
I bought a watermelon the other day for the first time this summer. You’d think a whole watermelon would be too much for just two people, but I’m thinking it’ll be just right right.
It filled two of those huge tupperware containers (I use these Produce Saver containers to keep my produce fresh longer) plus a mixing bowl.
I’m in heaven. It’s such a refreshing snack to reach for on hot days!
Adam likes all of his fruit cold and refrigerated. I prefer mine at room temperature whenever possible.
The Shirt Size I Wore As A 10-Year-Old
As I was unpacking this week, I found a t-shirt from when I was around 10 years old (or possibly a year or two younger).
This is an adult XL. Today I wear an adult medium (and sometimes even a small).
It still boggles my mind sometimes that I’ve lost 100 pounds.
There are so many people who wish for the metabolism or the body they had when they were young – not me!
An Early Wedding Present
My sister’s family brought an early wedding present over to our house the other day and we are over-the-moon excited for it!
A hammock built for two now graces the corner of our backyard.
I put it together while Adam was at work the other day. When he came home, I led him out and was planning to lay in it with him while we talked about our days.
Not 4 words into him telling me about work, a bird pooped on him.
I probably should have been more sympathetic, but I was too busy cracking up.
The other day, I killed a bug while I was unpacking. But I really hate having to feel the bug body when I pick it up, even through a tissue or paper towel. So, I just covered it with a paper towel and waited for Adam to come home to take care of it.
Marriage = having an on-call bug dispenser
And we’re one step closer! We officially have our marriage license. Now we just need to sign it on the wedding day to seal the deal!
My “happy’ shirt seemed appropriate for the occasion.
