Every week, I make time to connect with the most important people in my life. I have small group, weekly family dinner, Monday phone dates with my best friend, and Skype dates with my prayer partner.

Which is why I want to have a Friday virtual coffee date with you.

I would absolutely love to meet you in person and hear about the ups and downs and in-betweens of your life, but since that’s difficult to manage, the next best thing would be for you to leave me a comment or shoot me an email. I really do care about what’s going on with you! I have an ongoing list in my prayer journal of blog readers who have reached out to me sharing struggles, successes, and just everyday life stuff and I love all of it!

Here’s what’s been going on in my world.

I Hate Bananas. No, But Really.

I wish I could have a coffee date with you, but a virtual one will have to do. This week I had a close encounter with my nemesis (bananas), started a new strength training plan, discovered some new healthy & delicious foods, and had all kinds of adventures with the dogs of the house.

Whenever I tell people I hate bananas, they respond with shock and awe and the question that immediately follows is always, “But you like them in banana bread, right?”

NO.

No bananas in any form. I am taking some recipe pictures as a favor for a friend, so I had to buy them this week, but they stayed in the corner of the shopping cart where they couldn’t contaminate any of my other food.

Adam cracked up that I took such great measures to segregate them from the rest of the cart.

It took awhile for Adam to grasp how strongly I hate them, but he seemed to get the seriousness of the situation when we were shopping one night and I chose (somewhat forcefully) to carry the large case of water bottles rather than the basket with the bunch of bananas inside.

My 7-Week Strength Training Plan

I wish I could have a coffee date with you, but a virtual one will have to do. This week I had a close encounter with my nemesis (bananas), started a new strength training plan, discovered some new healthy & delicious foods, and had all kinds of adventures with the dogs of the house.

One of my favorite parts of the 7-week weight loss program that Sara and I run is that we go through it with the ladies. We each set a fitness goal for the end of the course and an action plan to get there.

In the past, my goals have usually been running-related, but this time, I knew I needed to bring in more strength training.

Believe me, it’s NOT because I like strength training (because I really really don’t). It’s because I know that’s my weakest area. I do a few strength moves here and there, but nothing very intentional or challenging.

So…I put together a 7-week plan to follow. And I knew it was going to be difficult for me to follow through by myself, so I convinced both my sister and Adam to do it with me, as well.

I had done some workout videos that a client recommended that are done by a couple (HASFit) and I had really enjoyed them, so I found a 30-day strength training plan that they had actually put together and modified it to fit my running schedule and to make it last 7 weeks.

We have all survived the first 5 days, but some of the workouts have been pretty brutal! Leg day made me SO sore!

My nephew joined in the workouts with us (using water bottles as his weights) and he was the most adorable thing ever. He just randomly throws out phrases that he’s picked up from the trainer in the video like, “I feel the burn!”

And I’m still doing some running in there, too. Running with my mom makes exercise SO much easier! Talking the whole time is the best distraction ever and 3 miles goes by so fast with her. If you don’t have a workout buddy, you need one!

Also, yes, my mother and I have matching running jackets, which I kind of love (they were on clearance at Kohl’s!).

This Week’s Deliciousness

Have you tried the Chobani Greek yogurt drinks? Our King Soopers had this as their free Friday download recently and it was delicious! Unfortunately, even with 14 grams of protein, it didn’t keep me full for very long. There’s just something about chewing food that makes a difference (but I would totally get this again for a mid-afternoon snack!).

Family dinner this week was nachos! My mom even healthified them a bit by using multigrain chips, ground turkey mixed with ground beef (because if she takes out the beef altogether, the men revolt!), and piling on extra veggies. So good!

And I have been cooking up a storm with my Instant Pot lately! A whole lot of recipes will be coming your way soon, so get ready! Until then, here’s a behind-the-scenes look at one of my food blogging photoshoots…and a sneak peak of the recipes to come!

Adventures With The Dog Squad

Between a quirky border collie, a fetch-obsessed yellow lab, and an energetic English pointer, there is rarely a dull moment in the house, but they are just the sweetest dogs ever.

Between Boots trying to sit on me and Bailey rolling into me for a belly rub (I had the puppy kenneled), stretching on the floor with them can be a near impossible task.

And Strider steal my chair every chance he gets and he is very much into creature comforts. Wherever there is a pillow and blanket, you will find him.

That lovable goober.

Boots just wants to sit on everybody’s lap. Nothing like a 70-pound lap dog!

This time, he crawled up on my sister’s lap because he was scared of the balloon my niece was playing with, but most of the time it’s just because…well…he’s Boots.

What’s New With You?

Enough about me, I want to hear about YOU!

Are you a dog lover?

Did you stumble on any awesome new snacks recently?

What kind of strength training do you actually like?

Do you hate bananas as much as I do?
