6 Prayers of Healing

1. Prayer for God’s Healing

God has many characteristics that we learn about from scripture. One of the things we saw Jesus do in the New Testament was heal those who were sick and had ailments.

Jesus cares for us, and we can come to Him to ask for healing. He cares to hear from us, and for us to lay down our burdens before Him in faith.

Lord,

I know that there is no greater place for me to turn to than to call out to You. Thank You for being an ever present God who hears me when I cry out to You.

Sometimes it feels easy to fall into despair, but I am reminded that You are the God and Creator of all things. If You’ve created me, how much more are You able to heal me, if it is Your will.

I ask that You look down on me, and have mercy on me, Lord. Please stretch Your hand out and mend what is broken inside of me, and heal what is sick.

Please hear my cry, and attend to my plea for healing. I ask that You would restore me back to health, and renew my spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2. Prayer for Strength in Weakness

We all experience weakness as humans. When you are going through an illness, injury or other form of hurt, there is a certain weakness that comes with it.

Whether that is a lack of energy, an inability to do certain activities or emotional distress, we can seek God and His strength in those times, knowing that His strength is made perfect in our weakness.

Father,

My body has grown weak and weary with this sickness. I am in need of Your strength, not only physically, but for You to strengthen my heart.

It is sometimes when we are slowed down, or not able to rely on our own strength that we come to lean into Yours as we should. Please help me to find my strength in You, Lord.

Thank You for reminding me that even though my flesh and my heart may fail You never do. It’s not in Your nature to, and that is something I can hold onto through every season.

In my weakness, Your strength is seen and my weakness is made perfect. Thank You for Your grace toward me, and for being my portion and the strength of my heart.

3. Prayer for Restored Health

When you’re having troubles with your health, many other parts of your life get affected. It can feel discouraged when health problems persist and don’t seem to go away.

Sometimes we may be going through life with emotional wounds that have been left untreated, and they too have a way of affecting other parts of our lives.

Whether physically, emotionally or mentally, we can ask God to restore us to health and heal our hurting wounds.

Dear God,

Thank You for Your word that gives me strength and hope in times of suffering. Thank You for the compassion that You show me, and the mercy of a new day.

I confess, my dwindling health has at times made me feel discouraged. But I know that trust in You is never in vain, and that You are wise beyond what I can understand.

My prayer is that You would restore my health, and heal my wounds. Please do a work in my health and turn it around in a way that can only be attributed to You.

Remind me, whether in good health or not, of Your faithfulness and the trustworthiness of Your character. Please fill me with hope and strengthen my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.

4. Prayer for Healing Sick Family and Friends

It’s tough seeing someone you love struggle with sickness. When a friend or family member is sick, our first instinct is always to help them in whichever way we can.

Sometimes it’s not always that simple, and we may feel powerless, like a bystander to their struggle. But we don’t have to feel discouraged, because we have Christ who desires for us to bring those we love and who are sick to Him in prayer.

Where we can’t go, He can, and we can ask Him to heal our loved ones and strengthen them.

Lord,

My heart hurts seeing those I love suffer with sickness. I know I don’t have the ability to heal them, but You do, so I come to You in faith on their behalf.

Please heal them of this sickness that has caused them so much suffering. I ask that You look down on them with compassion, and heal their wounds.

May they know that You love them, and that You are near. Please help them to seek You in this time, and to find comfort and strength in Your presence.

I know that there is no sickness that is beyond Your ability to heal, Lord, if it is Your will, I ask that You would bring recovery to my loved one.

Please help those around them, including myself, to be a support to them, and to help them as best as we can during this time.

I ask for Your peace in the midst of this storm, and that You would strengthen them not only in health but in heart as well. In Jesus’ name, amen.

5. A prayer for the hurting and brokenhearted

There is nothing that hurts quite like a broken heart. As humans, we can feel deeply, and hurt, betrayal, loss, and so many other things can tear at the seam of our heart.

When we’re hurting from a broken heart, we can mistakenly attempt to mend it through different means that don’t truly get to the heart of the hurt.

If you are feeling heartbroken, and alone, God’s word can offer you such comfort and healing.

Lord,

I need You desperately. My heart feels as though it has been broken into a thousand little pieces. And I don’t know how to fit them all together again.

I feel like I have nowhere to turn, but to You. I have so many questions, and I know I may never have all the answers to them, but I know I can trust You.

Please bring every broken piece of my heart together. I ask that You would fill me with Your comfort and strengthen me with hope.

Help me not to run to other means that promise fulfillment or healing, that only leave me empty. Remind me that You alone can make me whole again.

Please be near me, and lift up my head. Help me to hold onto You especially on days where I feel beyond hope. You are my hope, and in You I find my rest. In Jesus’ name. Amen

6. Prayer for Christ’s Healing Power

The same Jesus who healed the multitudes is the Jesus who we get to have a personal relationship with today.

It’s a wonderful mystery that we can call on Him in every moment of our lives, including when we or a loved one is in need of healing.

Through the gospels it is evident that Jesus is able to heal those who are sick, in fact, this healing is described as healing every disease and sickness.

There was not only one or two people that He healed, or one or two kinds of illnesses, He’s able to heal every disease. We can come to Him in prayer, asking for His healing power in our own illness.

Father,

Thank You for sending Jesus as the full revelation of who You are. Jesus, thank You for becoming like one of us, and being able to sympathize with our weaknesses.

I am always amazed at how You looked at compassion at those who were contrite in heart, and who dealt with brokenness and illness.

You give hope to those whose hopes have been shattered, and You bring healing to those who have been wounded.

I know that there is no illness that You cannot heal, and no situation that is too dire for You to change. Please allow Your healing power to touch my life.

Please hear my cry, and help me, Lord. Help me to experience Your healing in the areas of my life that I need it most. In Jesus’ name, amen.
