4 More Short Prayers for Mothers

1. Prayer for Mothers to Start the Day
The way we start our day can have such a big impact on the way the rest of our day goes.
Even when there are unexpected things that happen throughout our day, starting the day with a prayer, asking God to give you peace, guidance, patience and lead you in your role as a mother can make all the difference.
When we give our day to God, we learn to trust Him with all the activities, emotions and needs that we and our children may experience during the day.
Heavenly Father,
This is the day You have made, please help me to rejoice and be glad in it. Thank You for blessing my family and I with another day filled with Your grace, love and mercy. Please help me to place my focus on You as I go through the day, and do the tasks that lie ahead of me.
Help me to not only accept the grace that You extend to me, but help me to extend that same kind of grace to my children, and family today. May the love that pours out of me be from You, and Your unconditional love.
Please help me to be slow to anger, and to respond rather than to react to the things that may happen today. I ask that You grant me patience with my children, and remember that they are learning, just as I am learning each and every day.
I ask that You fill our home with Your peace, and allow it to run over into our relationships with one another. Help me to be a safe place for my children, and to love them in the ways that they need, and feel most loved today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
2. Prayer for Patience
Motherhood, or parenting in general is not an easy task. Though it is an enormous gift, it also comes with challenges and frustrations which can test your patience.
When you are raising little ones, they are still learning so many different things. They may be in a phase where they are throwing tantrums, waking up through the night, or simply behaving in ways that can leave you tired or frustrated as a parent.
We can ask God to help us be patient with our children, just as He is patient with us. Remembering how God deals with us, and asking Him to help us extend those qualities can make a big difference in how we feel and react.
Lord,
Today is one of those days where I feel as though I may run out of patience. It is so easy to respond to our children with impatience, annoyance or frustration, especially in times when they are misbehaving or not listening.
But I am reminded how, just like my children, we too are like that. There are days when we do the opposite of what You instruct us to do, or when we behave in ways that are not pleasing to You. Yet, as a gracious Father, You are patient with us, and are faithful even in our failures.
When my patience feels like it is being tested, please help me to think of Your patience towards me. Help me not to base my responses to my children off of my emotions or how I feel in the moment, but help me to take a moment to compose myself, and respond to them with patience.
When I am tired of repeating myself, or just want to hide away from the chaos, help me to rely on You, and bring those frustrations to You in prayer. Help me to lead by example, that they may learn what patience looks like, not only through my words, but through my actions. In Jesus’ name, amen.
3. Prayer for Wisdom & Guidance in Parenting
As parents, God has given us a great privilege and responsibility to raise children. Just like ourselves, children are made in the image of God, with the purpose of reflecting Him and glorifying Him.
As we raise our children, we not only require wisdom and guidance on the practical parts of parenting but also on the spiritual parts. Whether you are dealing with a certain behavior, making decisions regarding their education, or you are teaching them values or the gospel, there is no one greater or wiser to turn to than God.
Father,
Where else can I turn but to You? You hold all wisdom, and there is no one who instructs or advises You. Though there are many resources out there, I know that there is nothing that quite provides guidance and wisdom than seeking it from You.
It is not always easy to know what to do as a parent or how to respond to certain situations. I know that it is impossible to know everything and to get it right in every instance. Please help me to see new challenges as an opportunity for growth and reliance on You.
I ask that You would be my guide as I raise my precious humans. Help me to be a godly example to them, and to not only teach them about You, but to show them through my own words and actions.
I know there may be many times where it is trial and error in parenting. In those moments, help me to be patient with both myself and my children, and to extend grace, knowing that none of us are perfect, yet we are growing.
Help me to raise children who are rooted in Christ, and who know and love You and Your word. May they be a light in this darkened world, and be set apart for Your kingdom. May they place their faith in You, and not the world or its empty promises. In Jesus’ name, amen.
4. Prayer for Mothers Who Feel Weary & Worried
When you have little ones who you love and care for, there can be natural anxiety that comes with it. Whether that is anxiety over the future, over their wellbeing, or the struggles that you are facing as a family.
If we’re honest, sometimes it can all wear us down, and leave us feeling weary, overwhelmed, and anxious. The good news is that God calls those who are weary and heavy laden to find rest in His presence. If you have been weary lately or laden with anxiety, this prayer is for you.
Lord,
I am so tired. Though I am grateful for the gift of motherhood, and the privilege to love and raise my children, I would be lying if I didn’t say that I feel weary and filled with heavy feelings of anxiety.
I know Your word says not to be anxious about anything, but rather, in everything, to come to You in prayer. Today I want to bring my anxious thoughts before You. You know every detail of what worries me and what has caused me to feel unsettled.
I ask that You would help me to bring those burdened feelings to You in full surrender. Please replace those feelings of anxiety with peace, and help me trust You when it is hard to do.
In the same way, I ask that You would take this feeling of weariness, and help me to find strength in You, and Your presence. May my mind and heart be revitalized through Your word, and Your Holy Spirit who is at work in me.
Help me to find moments of rest during the day, and help me to keep my mind stayed on You. Your word says that You keep those whose minds are stayed on You at peace, please let that be true of me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
