1. Prayer for Physical Healing

There’s power in prayer, and that includes healing power. When we pray for our loved ones who are struggling with an illness or who are in the hospital, we are relying not on the power of our prayers but on the God who it is directed at. He is able to heal and bring your loved one to health. When you pray for healing, appeal to His power and ability to restore.

Lord,

Thank You for the gift of prayer, and that I get to lift up my loved one to You today. You know the ins and outs of what they are dealing with in the hospital. There is not a moment where You are not aware, or not present.

My prayer is that You would reach out Your healing hand towards them and make them whole again. Please relieve pain where they are experiencing it, and bring clarity to the questions that are still left unanswered.

I ask that You heal their body, and restore their health. Remove any illness or pain that is keeping them from being able to come home. Help them to feel comforted by Your presence as they remain in the hospital for now.

Please guide the doctors and staff, and grant them wisdom in the decisions that need to be made. May they extend patience, love and encouragement to my loved one and make their time in the hospital as comfortable as possible.

I ask that You strengthen their faith, and their heart. Help them to look to You as their hope, and rest in the peace that You provide. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2. Prayer for Spiritual Well-Being

When someone is in the hospital, it can be easy to solely focus on their physical health but forget the importance of their spiritual health as well. Our spiritual health is ultimately what keeps us going both in health and in sickness. Praying for your loved ones’ spiritual well-being can help strengthen their faith and encourage them to hope and peace.

Father,

You have created us with more than bodies, You have made us with souls. Our souls apart from You cannot grow, and cannot thrive. But in even the driest of seasons, those whose faith is placed in You are like trees who are planted by the waters.

In this season of hardship, I ask that You would fill my loved ones’ heart and soul with Your living waters. May they not lose sight of You, but rather fix their eyes on You in a way that they have never done before.

Instead of being discouraged by their hospitalization, I ask that You fill their heart with the hope of Your goodness. May they cling to You, knowing that You are good in all circumstances that we experience in life.

May this time that they spend away from their comfort zone draw them nearer to You, and develop a greater reliance on You. Help them to grow in steadfast prayer, and look to Your word for guidance and hope.

Remind them of Your Word, and may it be true of them, that though they may outwardly be experiencing weakness, inwardly they are being renewed day by day by Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.

3. Prayer for Emotional Strength

The bodily pain or illness that we endure does not only affect our body, but in many ways, it can take a toll on our minds and emotions. That is why it is so important to not only pray for bodily healing and strength but to ask God to quiet the anxiety that your loved one is experiencing and to grant them comfort and strength mentally and emotionally.

Lord,

I want to take a moment to thank You for my loved one. Thank You for their life, and for the wonderful person that You have created them to be. I confess it is really hard to see them in the hospital and to know what they are enduring each day. But I know that Your care for them exceeds even the greatest of human love.

So my prayer is that You would wrap them in Your love today. Please melt away any dark or heavy thoughts that they are going through as they lay in the hospital by themselves through the night.

I ask that You grant them the emotional strength that they need to endure this difficult time. Help them to lean on You, and to be reminded that they can bring their worries, fears, and feelings to You in prayer.

I ask that You give them rest as they seek You, and bring peace in the places that are raging with fear or anxiety. May they know the peace of Christ that surpasses all understanding, and that is greater than the circumstances we face.

Comfort them and remind them that You are close to those with a broken heart and that You rescue those who have a crushed spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.

4. Prayer for Medical Team

When your loved one is in the hospital, they will be seen by various medical professionals. The medical team has an important role to play in the diagnosis and treatment of the illness or injury that they are experiencing. Though the medical team has been professionally trained, it is important to pray for them and ask God to give them guidance, and clarity as they perform their duties.

Father,

Today I am grateful for the many healthcare professionals who are passionate about their work and helping people. My prayer is that my loved one will be under the care of a medical team who truly cares for people, and who are diligent and patient.

I want to take a moment to pray over every doctor, nurse, and staff member in the hospital. I ask that You fill the hospital with Your peace and comfort. May the doctors and staff know You personally and may that relationship extend into the way they serve and treat their patients.

I ask that You guide their hands as they operate, and diagnose various issues. Please help them to be sharp and precise in what they do, and to be thorough in their work.

Please bless their work and help them be representatives for You in their field. Grant them wisdom in both diagnosing and treating my loved ones’ sickness and pain.

Provide them with the energy that they need to complete their long shifts, and help them to remain sober in thought. May their work bless every patient, including my loved one, and make their time in the hospital as pleasant as possible. In Jesus’ name, amen.

5. A Prayer to Ease Pain

No one likes to be in a state of pain. Physical pain can be very hard to bear and is often uncomfortable for those who are experiencing it. Whether the pain is from an injury or illness, or it is temporary or chronic, it is natural to desire relief from pain. If you have a loved one in the hospital who is struggling with pain, bless them with a prayer of relief from the pain that they are going through.

Father,

If there is anyone who knows pain, it is Christ. He endured pain during His life on Earth. He knows what physical pain feels like before He has endured it Himself. That is why He is our high priest, because He can sympathize with us, and has experienced what we experience.

Today my prayer is that You would have compassion on my loved one who is experiencing pain. I ask that You would extend Your mercy toward them, and ease the pain that they are going through.

I know that there may be different medications that they are receiving for the pain. I ask that You help those medicines to be effective and to work thoroughly.

In the discomfort that they are experiencing, I ask that You comfort them. May they trust in You for relief of their pain, and place their hope in You, for You are able to heal them. In Jesus’ name, amen.
