6 Heartfelt Prayers For Grandmas

Use these 6 heartfelt prayers for grandmas to pray for everything from your grandmother’s health to her heart.

There is nothing quite like having a loving grandma in your life. Grandmas are the equivalent of a warm beverage on a cold winter’s evening, and a refreshing lemonade on a toasty summer afternoon.

If you are blessed to have your grandma in your life, one of the best ways that you can show them love and honor is to pray for them.

As time goes by, our grandmas will face many of the challenges that come with aging. Their physical strength may weaken, their sight may lose its sharpness, or their memories may slip away.

Though they’ll likely experience some of these things, in many ways, their appreciation of the time they have on this side of heaven grows deeper.

A Prayer For Physical Strength

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” – Isaiah 40:28-31

Father,

Today I want to lift up my grandma to you in prayer. I know that every day comes with its own challenges, but I pray that You will give her the strength to face them. When she gets up in the morning, will You please be the pillar that she leans on for the rest of the day. When she feels tired, please carry her through and provide her with the rest she needs. Remind her that You call those who are weary to come to You and find Your rest.

I pray that she will have the energy to do the small things in her daily life that keep her moving and active. Help her to be gracious with herself when she needs to slow down or take a break. May she look after her body through a healthy diet and regular exercise. I pray that she will have people around her who will gladly assist her when she needs help and that she can count on.

A Prayer For Their Faith

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

Lord,

Thank You for how You have graciously carried my grandma through the years. Every day added to her life is a gift that I get to experience. Please help me not to take her for granted. You have shown Yourself to be faithful in all the areas of her life, and through You she has been a light in my life.

My prayer is that her relationship with You will continue to blossom beautifully in the years to come. May her fire for Your truth burn strong and bright. Though her memory has lost some of its strength, I pray that she will lean on You to renew her mind.

I pray that You would draw her closer to Yourself and that she would find in You her refuge. As she walks with You, may her faith be refined and stand the test of time. I pray that she will bear testament to Your goodness and mercy to all those who cross her path. Help her to remain steadfast in her pursuit of You. And may the joy of the Lord truly become her strength.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Prayer For Healing Past Hurts

“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.” – Matthew 5:233-24

Dear God,

You have brought my grandma through all the ups and downs of life. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that she once was a young woman with her own sets of troubles and struggles. Even though many years have passed, it’s true that we can all carry some of that hurt, rejection, or disappointment with us for years to come. You know better than anyone if there is any hurt that my grandma has experienced that has not been healed.

It is hard to let go of our hurt, but holding onto it hurts us in new ways every day. I pray that You will help my grandma reflect on the things that have happened in her life. If there are any quarrels that she is still able to make amends with, I pray that You will give her the courage to do so. If there is someone in her past or even present that she hasn’t forgiven, I pray that You would help her extend the same kind of mercy that You have shown her to others. Please free her heart from the burden of carrying unforgiveness or bitterness, and help her to lead a life of peace.

It’s In Your Name, I pray, amen.

A Prayer For Peace

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7

Lord,

Thank You for sending Jesus, and thank You, Jesus, that You came. If it weren’t for Your selfless sacrifice, we would not have peace between us and God. It is so easy to take this truth for granted, but I pray, Lord, that You would remind my grandma of this beautiful reality. No one desires to live in strife, and I know this is true for her as well. My prayer is that she will above all be right with You. If there is anything keeping her from surrendering her life to You, I pray that You would remove it. May she live at peace with You, Lord.

It is only when our relationship with You is right that our relationships with others stand a chance. May the peace that she experiences in her relationship with You overflow into her relationships with those around her. If there is any strife, I pray that You will bring reconciliation. I pray that even her relationship with herself would be one of peace and acceptance. Protect her from any negative thought processes that might discourage her or warp her identity in You. May peace follow her all the days of her life.

In Jesus’ matchless name, amen.

A Prayer For Their Needs To Be Met

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” –

Philippians 4:19

Father,

You know what we need before we even say a word. You have said that we don’t have to worry about what we will eat and what we will wear, because You already know our needs. If You care for the birds of the air and the flowers of the field, how much more will You take care of us? How much more will You take care of my grandma? You know exactly what my grandma needs to make it through each day. I pray that all her needs will be met.

May she rely on You as her Provider. Help her not to worry about her needs, but to count on You as faithful. Please surround her with people who are generous and sensitive to her needs.

Shower her with Your kindness and goodness. May her needs be met in such a way that she can share with others who are in need. I pray that You will help her to grow in contentment and thankfulness.

A Prayer For The Desires of Their Heart

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. – Psalm 37:4 Lord,

Thank You for being so attentive to the needs and desires of our hearts. We all come into the world with our own plans and desires that we hope to fulfill. You know the very hidden corners of my grandma’s heart and the hopes that she clings onto. I know many of the desires we have are not random, some You haven’t even placed there. Please help my grandma to distinguish which desires are of You and which are not.

Sometimes we can be disappointed because our plans are not the plans You have for us. But Your plans and ways are always higher than ours. Please help my grandma to remember this and to submit to Your plans for her life. I pray that You will help her to open her heart and bring her desires to You. If there are any dreams that haven’t been realized, Lord, may You open a pathway for her, if it pleases You. May her greatest delight and pleasure be found in You. May You be the sole treasure of her heart, and find complete satisfaction in You.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
