37 Bible Verses About Tears and Crying

Use these Bible Verses about tears and crying to see what God’s word says about our hurt, heartache, and struggles and how He can meet our hearts there.

What does the Bible say about tears?

When we are experiencing times of sorrow, and our face is streamed with tears, it can feel as though we are all alone. But the tears we shed, and the heartache we experience are not in vain. You can use these Bible verses about tears to learn that you can not only find comfort but even purpose in your heartache and struggles

Though it may sometimes feel like an isolated circumstance, facing times of sorrow, sadness, and tears is a part of the human experience and emotions. At times we might cry tears of joy, frustration, heartbreak, or angst, and at other times, we may be filled with deep sorrow and grief.

Throughout Scripture, and especially in the book of Psalms we see the real emotions of real people. We see David weep until he has no more strength to weep. We see Peter weeping bitterly after he denied Christ three times. We even see that Jesus wept for Lazarus, his friend who had died, even though He would raise him again

In our tears, we have hope, not only for this world but for eternity. Just as He comforted those in Scripture, He offers us comfort in our heartache. It is not only something He does, but a part of His character – He is our comforter. In your sorrow, you can cry out to God for help, comfort, and peace, knowing that He cares for you, and will one day wipe away your tears for good.
