5 New Job Prayers
Have you recently lost a job? Are you unemployed and looking for a new job? Use these new job prayers to seek God’s guidance.
There is always a mixture of emotions when you start a new job. If you have been praying for a new job for a while, it can feel especially exciting when a new position presents itself. That excitement can be mingled with anxiety, enthusiasm, fear, gratitude, and a sense of feeling purposeful all at once.
A new job often means a new environment, new colleagues, new responsibilities, tasks, work hours, and so much more. Sometimes a new job may not be too different from a previous job you have done, whether it be in the tasks, or in the same environment.
A brand new job, a promotion, a transfer, or all of the above, comes with its own excitement and challenges, but we can all agree that it is often a blessing that we have prayed for.
Now that you have a new job, the best foot you can put forward is by praying for God’s strength, guidance, wisdom, and blessing at work.
If you are seeking some guidance on how to pray for your new job, here are 5 prayers for starting that new job.
5 New Job Prayers

1. Prayer When Starting A New Job
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for providing me with this job opportunity. It has not been easy, and at times my hope felt as though it was dwindling. But You have answered my prayers for a new job, and now I am getting ready to start this new venture.
My prayer is that You will help me to start this job with a heart that is fixed on You, and will remember that You have placed me there. Help me to be aware of my speech, actions, and the quality of work that I do.
Remind me that I get to glorify You, and reveal You to others in the way that I conduct myself. I ask that You would grant me energy as I start my new job, and help it to be fueled by the knowledge that I am working for You, and not for people.
Please help me to be attentive, and a quick learner, as I settle into this new position. Help me not to be discouraged if it takes time for me to learn, and please grant those who are instructing me patience, as they guide me.
May I be a shining light for Christ in the workplace, and grow in the fruit of the Spirit towards all of those I will come across, whether co-workers or clients. In Jesus’ name, amen.
2. Prayer of Gratitude for New Job
Lord,
I cannot thank You enough for the blessing of a new job. I know that it is something that we can grow so easily tired of, yet it is something that so many people are in desperate need of daily.
Please help me to grow in gratitude, not only for this new job, but for Your presence in my life, and the way You have provided for me even when I wasn’t aware. Thank You for bringing this job across my path when You did, and for helping me obtain it.
Thank You for how You have taken care of me daily and supplied my needs. Thank You for the guidance that You have provided, and for placing this opportunity in front of me. I know that I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for You.
As I start work each day, I ask that You would fill me with gratitude. Help me to give You praise for each new day, and Your mercies that come with it. Please surround me with Your grace, and help me fix my mind on those things that are good, praise-worthy, pure, lovely, and right.
Whenever I feel tempted to complain, help me to examine my heart, and to see whether it is from a true concern that needs to be addressed, or whether I am merely grumbling, instead of persevering. Help me to remember that there will be tough days at work, yet even on those days, You are there and give me so much reason to be grateful. In Jesus’ name, amen.
3. Prayer To Be A Diligent Worker
Father,
How can I ever thank You for Your kindness toward me? Thank You for making a way for me, and blessing me with this new job. I know that You do not look at the outward appearance, or judge the way that people may judge. Lord, You look at the heart.
My prayer is that You would help my heart to be in accordance with Your word. You have called me not to be lazy or passive, but to be diligent in the work that I do. You have gifted me with skills and abilities to use in this new position.
Help me to remember that all that I have, and all that I am is only through Your gracious hands. Please help me to be humble in the way that I work, and how I communicate and collaborate with others.
May I never be boastful, and self-exalting. But rather, help me to work as though I am working for You. Please keep me from being self-righteous at work, and help me to seek peace with those around me, as far as it is up to me.
I ask that You would fill me with energy, purpose, and strength to carry out the tasks in front of me to the best of my abilities. Please keep me from trying to find shortcuts to finishing my work, if that means compromising its quality. Remind me that this job is something that You have entrusted me with and that I am called to steward well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
4. Prayer for First Day of Job
Dear Lord,
Thank You for this new day. Thank You that I get to wake up, and prepare myself for a new job that You have blessed me with. Thank You for being there for me to call on, no matter the time of day, or the situation that I face.
As I approach this new environment, and the people who I will be working with, I ask that You would grant me patience and enthusiasm. Help me to spend time with You regularly, so that I might be filled with the fruit of the Spirit, and reflect You, instead of my flesh, to those around me.
I ask that You would grant me focus, as I learn new tasks. Help me to ask for help when needed, and to accept help when it is offered. Please keep my mind off any distractions, and help me to be attentive when I am at work.
As I get ready for my first day, I ask that You would calm any fears or nerves that I am experiencing. If there is any fear of man inside of me, I ask that You would remove that, and help me to be more focused on honoring You with the quality of my work, rather than seeking to impress others.
Please help me to be disciplined, and not to put my work off for later. Help me to get into a rhythm of purposeful work and intentional rest throughout the week. Help me to be a witness for Christ in my workplace, and to show others the love of Christ through the gospel. In Jesus’ name, amen.
5. Prayer for Endurance & Strength
Gracious God,
Today I am once again reminded that I can accomplish nothing without You. I may try sometimes, but my efforts are in vain. It can be so easy to start off a new job feeling energized, excited and purposeful.
But as time goes on, the complaints begin to build, the excitement wears off, and I forget that I prayed for an opportunity like this. I know that work will not always feel exciting, and at times it might not feel purposeful at all. But my prayer is that You will help me to remember how grateful I was for this job at the beginning.
As I grow in this position, please help me to continually turn to You for strength and guidance. When it gets tough, and there are deadlines that need to be met, I ask that You would grant me endurance and discipline to finish the task.
Help me to collaborate with others, who are more knowledgeable than me, or who have worked there longer than I have. If something takes me some time to learn, help me not to grow weary or discouraged, but to learn as best as I can, and to ask for help when needed.
I know that my lifestyle outside of work will affect my energy and focus at work as well. Please help me to get rid of habits that drain my energy, and help me to fuel my body with sufficient sleep, healthy food, and enough water and exercise. Remind me that discipline does not start at work but at home. In Jesus’ name, amen.
