The marriage union is a sacred commitment that we make before God. When we first get married, we do it with the intention to commit our lives to one another, and to live together faithfully. Sadly, for many marriages, this commitment to faithfulness has been broken, and it has tainted the way God has intended marriage, one man and one woman.

If you are a wife who has learned or found out about your husband’s unfaithfulness, my heart goes out to you. It is a heartwrenching experience, and it often takes time to pick up the pieces, and to build trust in your relationship again.

But the good news is that there is hope for redemption in Christ, even in the midst of such great pain, and betrayal. There is hope for your husband to repent, and to change. There is hope for God to restore your marriage, and there is hope that forgiveness, and healing can take place.

Those feelings of betrayal, sadness, anger and heartbreak can feel overwhelming. In your time of grief, God reminds you that He is close to the brokenhearted and that He saves those with a crushed spirit.

1. Prayer to Heal My Heart

It is both heart shattering and world shattering when infidelity occurs in a marriage. It feels as though what was yours, and yours to share with your spouse has been broken into, and torn apart. When we enter into marriage with someone we become one.

When that sacred relationship experiences betrayal and unfaithfulness, it can feel as though that oneness has been ripped apart. It is no surprise that such an experience causes such broken-heartedness and pain. It can be hard to navigate through such heartbreak, but we can ask God to walk alongside us as we do, and heal us from the hurt.

Heavenly Father,

My heart feels as though it has been shattered into a million different pieces. It’s so hard for me to understand how someone I love, and who loves me could hurt me this way. It hurts in so many ways, and it is hard to believe that this happened to me, that it happened to us.

There are so many things that I am feeling all at once. But the greatest feeling of all is this brokenness inside of me. It feels like my heart was ripped right into two, and I don’t know how to recover from it.

I know Your word says that You are near to those with a broken heart. Please be near to me, Lord. Please help me pick up these pieces, and put them together again in a way that only You can. I know that I can trust You with my heart.

I ask that You would fill my heart with Your comfort, and make it whole again. When I feel hopeless, I ask that You would remind me of the hope that I have in Christ. Please help me to look to You in this time, and seek Your comfort and compassion in my pain.

Help me and my husband to work through this together, and to commit ourselves and our marriage to You. Please help me to find the strength to forgive my husband, and grant him a heart that is truly broken over his actions, repentant and willing to seek forgiveness, and help. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2. Prayer for a Husband to Confess and Repent

When someone cheats in marriage, there is a big tear that is created in the trust that those two people shared. As the wife of a husband who has been unfaithful, it can be hard to extend forgiveness for the hurt that your husband has caused you.

But what may feel even worse is when your husband has not confessed his unfaithfulness, or sought repentance and forgiveness. If you are in this situation, ask God to work in your husband’s heart and bring him to a place of true repentance and change.

Lord,

I pray that You will move in my husband’s heart and bring him to true repentance. I know that no one can move in a person’s heart, and bring about true change apart from You. I cannot change my husband, and I cannot make him repentant, You alone can do that.

My prayer is that You would bring his heart to a place of repentance. Help him to see the weight of his deeds, and how it has affected our marriage and the commitment we made to one another before You. Please help him to see that his sin is first and foremost against You, and help him to know that there is forgiveness and restoration to be found in You.

Please fill him with the humility and strength to seek my forgiveness, and to do so with a heart that is truly broken over his unfaithfulness. Help him to not only repent in word, but in deed, both in cutting off and ending his relations with the person whom he was unfaithful with, and being committed to me, and the restoration of our marriage.

I ask that You would break down any pride or shame that is keeping him from turning to You, and confessing his sin. Please allow Your Holy Spirit to work in his heart and to bring conviction that leads to repentance. Guide us in the way forward, and use even this hurt to bring us closer to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

3. Prayer for a Husband to Cut Ties With the Other Woman

Marriage was made for two people. That is why it is such a painful experience when someone in a marriage commits adultery, and invites someone else into what is meant to be a sacred and holy union between two people before God.

For your husband to truly repent, will require for him to not only end the physical relations that he has had with the other woman, but also the emotional connection that was created in the process. This can be a difficult journey for you to walk as a wife, and it is something that You can invite God to heal, and help.

Father,

I don’t know how we got to this place. I feel hurt and betrayed by my husband, and it is so easy to think that I wasn’t enough, or did not do enough to prevent this from happening. I know that’s not true, but it can be so easy to believe it, and to compare myself to the woman who my husband cheated with.

Please help me to keep those thoughts out of my mind. Remind me that it is a decision that my husband chose to make, and it is a decision that has caused a lot of suffering in our marriage, and our lives. But I know that there is forgiveness, and the opportunity to change, and make better decisions.

Help my husband to make decisions that have our marriage’s best interest at heart. Please help him to cut ties with the woman who he has had an affair with, and to show true remorse and repentance. Keep his heart from being tempted to go back, and help him not only to grow in self-control, but to forsake any feelings that he has allowed to grow between him and her.

Please break any hold that they may have over one another, and help him to communicate to her that their relationship is over, and that it was never meant to happen in the first place. Please help her to repent, and to respect our marriage, and to leave us to work towards restoration. In Jesus’ name, amen.

4. Prayer for Restoration in Marriage and Guidance

Though infidelity can turn your world upside down, there is hope in God for restoration. If you and your husband have been able to talk about his affair, and he has asked for forgiveness, and shown the fruit of repentance, and a desire to commit anew, and you have extended forgiveness to him, it is possible for your marriage to move towards restoration. It does require both of you to work together, and there is no way to do this apart from God’s help.

Lord,

There is no other place where we can turn. You alone are our hope, especially in the midst of brokenness and shame. I am so grateful that I have You to turn to in this painful time in my life. I am reminded today that nothing is too great for You to restore, or too hard for You to work on.

As my husband and I try to navigate what life looks like now, I pray for Your guidance and strength to walk this path. Please help us both to turn to You in humility, and seek Your wisdom, and guidance for our lives.

Please bring the right people into our lives who can help us through this season, and who can counsel us and point us back to You. I ask that You would restore our marriage and heal the hurts that this affair has caused in our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
