5 Prayers For Help

No matter what you are struggling with right now, use these prayers for help to ask God for assistance, guidance, and encouragement.

Though we may not always be aware of it, there is not a moment where we don’t need God or His help.

Sometimes there are situations that lead us to fall on our knees before God, asking for help. When we are experiencing life-alternating events (like a move, a job loss, or a death), when we are going through a trial, when our health is in danger, or we are feeling weary or broken from life.

You may need emotional healing, God’s guidance, discernment, self-control, calm for your worries, comfort for your broken heart,

Whether it’s for a job interview, financial breakthrough, help to control your anger, clarity and direction,

These are all reasons why we turn to God for help. These are good reasons to turn to God for help, but what we begin to realize is that it does not take an event that feels out of our control to seek God’s face, in our human condition, we require God’s help daily.

The good news is that God desires to hear from us, and He wants us to come to Him in prayer.

If you are walking through a very tough time in your life, these prayers are for you. And even when life feels as though it is going “well” our soul still needs God as much on good days as it does on days that feel darker.

We serve a God who is our ever-present help in times of trouble, and the best way we can walk through those times is through prayer.

Here are a few prayers to encourage You, and to invite God into the situation that you are going through today.

Prayers for Help

1. Prayer For God’s Help in Times of Trouble

Heavenly Father,

Where else can I go? Where can I turn in times of trouble? When my fear threatens to overwhelm me, and the events of life seem to take a turn for the worst. When disappointment hits, or a situation feels absolutely hopeless?

I can only turn to You. You are my strength in times of trouble. When I feel as though I am overwhelmed by darkness, Your light shines brightly and leads the way for me. When I feel anxious, Your peace extends a hand toward me.

Now more than ever, I am desperate for Your help. This time has been pressing, and it has crushed me in ways that make it hard to cope with daily life. Please reach out Your hand into my situation and change it.

I ask that You would help me to put my trust in You, and to look to You instead of the rising storm around me. No matter how tough it gets, help me to find peace and contentment in You, even if the situation does not change soon.

You are my help, my Rock, and my God. Please have compassion on me, and save me. Draw me closer to You, and help me to rely on You. Even in times like this, remind me of the future hope of glory that I have in Christ that can never be taken away from me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2. Prayer for Help During Illness

Father,

I cry out to You for Your compassion. I know that there is not an illness in this world that is foreign to You, or that You are not capable of healing. I have seen Your wonderworking power through the word, in the lives of others, and in my own life.

I know that doctors have their place in illnesses, but I know that You are also the Great Physician. You are able to heal illnesses and mend brokenness. I ask that You would grant me healing from this illness, and bring me to health.

Please grant me the strength that I need when I am feeling weak, and fill me with supernatural endurance. Help me not to grow weary or discouraged, but even in sickness, to look to You. You are my hope and my salvation.

I ask that You would give those who are helping me wisdom, and guidance on how to deal with this illness. If there is anything that will ease the pain or effects of the illness, I ask that You would help me to find it, and apply it.

Help me to remain hopeful, whether I am in health or in sickness. Please help me to see an improvement in my health, and to trust You no matter what. If it is Your will, I ask that You restore me to full health, in Your time and ways. In Jesus’ name, amen.

3. Prayer for Help in Fear & Anxieties

Prince of Peace,

I am in desperate need of Your peace today. My mind feels as though it cannot rest for a single moment. I am worried about the circumstances in my life, and it seems like there is no way to experience peace until they get resolved.

I know that peace is possible in all circumstances when You are near. My anxious and fearful thoughts have filled my mind to the point where I have looked away from You and allowed those anxieties to rule me.

Please forgive me for turning my eyes from You, and onto my circumstances and the fears that I have. I know that You are greater than anything that I face in life and that Your peace is available to me now.

I ask that You would help me to lay down the fears that I have. Please quiet the anxious thoughts in my mind, and replace them with Your trustworthy word. Help me to remember who You are and that You are sovereign over all things.

Please fill me with Your peace that passes all understanding, and help me to steady my mind on You. Your word says that You keep in perfect peace those whose minds are fixed on You because they trust in You. Help me to trust You more, and to know that You care for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

4. Prayer for Help in Temptation

Lord,

Thank You so much for Christ, who walked this earth, and faced the temptations that we face today. Yet, He did not sin. He is not only able to sympathize with the weaknesses that we experience but He has become our High Priest who made peace between us and You.

There are so many temptations that lie before me each day. In my own strength I fail to resist them, and many times I will try to fight them, instead of fleeing from them. But my heart is deceitful, and I know I cannot rely on it to guide me.

Please help me to seek Your word, and rely on Your Holy Spirit when temptation arises. I ask that Your Spirit would strengthen me, and help me in times of temptation.

Please help me to be wise in the situations that I enter. Help me resist instant gratification through engaging in sinful behavior. May I grow to be patient, self-controlled, and God-honoring in my thoughts, speech, and actions.

When I feel overwhelmed or discouraged, help me to remember that there is nothing under the sun that others have not been tempted with. Nothing is new to You, and You are able to help me overcome temptations, and turn to You in times of need. In Jesus’ name, amen.

4. Prayer for Healing A Broken Heart

Father,

I feel so broken. It’s as though my heart has taken a knife, and it isn’t recovering from the blow. Though I try to make it through the day, sometimes it feels like my heart is bleeding out, and I can no longer be fully present for anything.

This brokenness can feel so lonely sometimes. Though I know that I am never alone, because You are with me, at times I can forget this, or feel as though I have been left all by myself.

It’s on days like today when I need a comforting reminder that You are not far, but near to those with a broken heart. You don’t despise the pain that I am feeling, You desire for me to lay it before You, and find the comfort that only You can give.

Please pour out Your love, and comfort into my heart at this moment. I ask that You would mend my wounded heart in the way that You alone can do. Help me to process through this hurt and brokenness, and not to allow it to turn into bitterness, resentment, or anger.

When I feel overwhelmed, or like I can’t go on this way, please help me to confide in You, and be filled with Your peace that passes all understanding. Thank You for Your compassions that never fail, and Your mercies that are new each day. May I take hold of it each new day.

5. Prayer for God’s Protection & Strength

Gracious God,

Thank You for being there when I call on You. Your word says that those who seek You will find You when they search for You with their whole hearts. Today, I am seeking for You with my entire heart, Lord.

Thank You for never turning down a heart that is contrite, and in need of You. More than ever, I am in need of Your strength and protection in my life.

Sometimes I feel as though I don’t have the strength to carry on, but I know that those moments are a reminder that there is a greater strength that I need to rely on. That strength is Yours.

Please forgive me for the times that I have relied on my own strength, only to have it fail me. Your strength cannot fail, because there is no one who compares to You. It is an honor that I get to have You as my shield in times of trouble, and my rock when life is uncertain.

My prayer is that You would help me in times of weakness, and lift me up with Your strength. Help me to rely on You, not only when I think I need it, but daily. Please protect me, and keep me safe in Your arms.
