A few weeks ago, I received an e-mail from Wasa offering me a sample of their products and an opportunity for you to win one, too! I had heard of the brand before, but never tried their products. But, seriously, could I have turned down the opportunity to try free, salty, crunchy, and healthy food? No way, man.
So, I replied that I would be honored to try their product and a few days later, I received this lovely little package…
They had a ton of different flavors! There are basically two basic kinds that they offer: crispbread or flatbread. I instantly fell in love with both flavors (sesame and rosemary) of the flatbreads. They are just as thin and crispy as the box claims! They are just salty enough and their flavors are just fabulous. I liked the flatbreads the best, but Daniel preferred the crispbread. They are much thicker and more hearty. He liked the multi grain the best, but they also have light rye and whole grain.
So, of course, I had to come up with a recipe for the flatbreads! I was initially trying to come up with a new recipe I hadn’t tried yet. My first thought was to make a quinoa tabbouleh, but it just so happened that my good friend, Laurie, had just made exactly that and we both preferred the traditional bulgur to the quinoa.
And then, I remembered a fabulous spread that my mom used to make for me. I used to inhale the stuff (okay, I didn’t really inhale it…that probably wouldn’t have gone over so well with my lungs)! It was fresh and creamy and absolutely perfect for the rosemary flatbreads (which, by the way, totally taste like the amazing bread that they serve at Macaroni Grill).
If you’re not into cucumber spread, try a bit of pesto! Or top it with a little bit of tomato sauce, chicken, and cheese to make a mini chicken parmesan! Or put a little bit of mayo, deli meat, and cheese an open face flatbread sandwich!
There are a million and one things you could top the sesame crackers with, but I chose to go with jicama (my current obsession), green onion, and just a drop of low sodium soy sauce.
