There is no better time than to pray for the unity and peace of our country than on Independence Day. It is a day that we get to celebrate together through family gatherings, fireworks and cook-outs. But more than that, it is a reminder of the freedom that we get to experience as a nation.
This 4th of July I encourage you to pray for the United States, and for all its people. We not only get to experience physical freedom as a nation, but we can know true spiritual and eternal freedom when we seek Christ, who is the true Savior of all peoples and nations.

1. Prayer for Our Nation On 4th of July
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.” – Psalm 33:12
There is no nation that is as blessed as one who looks to God as their Lord. He is the creator of all things and people, and nothing that any nation can have can triumph over Him. That is why it is important to pray that America would come back to its foundations and look to God once again.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being so gracious to our nation all these years. Thank You for blessing us, and having established us in the way that You have. Today I reflect on Your goodness, and all that You have brought us through. I lift up every single person who is a part of this nation that You have given us. I ask that You would help us to be kind, generous and considerate of one another.
I ask that You would remind us of all of those who have come before us. Thank You for making us a great nation. Please continue to bless us so that we might be a blessing to other nations. Help us to look to You as our Lord, and to follow Your precepts. May You be glorified in this nation, and be lifted high in praise. In Jesus’ name, amen.
2. Prayer for Peace in America
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” – Matthew 5:9
There is often a lot of uproar, division and strife between people in the country. Many of it is widely seen through media and social platforms. But God calls us to be peacemakers, to have peace among each other, and to live at peace with others as long as it is up to us. We as Christians can be the example of this peace to the rest of the country.
Lord,
Thank You for another year where we get to remember and celebrate this day of freedom. I ask that You allow all of our celebrations to be done in a safe and peaceful manner. Please protect us from any harm, and break every evil scheme or plan of the enemy on this day. Help us as a nation not to quarrel with one another but to stand together in peace and unity.
I ask that You would turn the hearts of every person in our nation towards Your Son. Help them to see that true peace is only found in having a relationship with Jesus, who has made a path for us to the Father. I ask that we would not only experience peace between neighbors, but that we would know the peace of Christ personally in both our hearts and minds. In Jesus’ name, amen.
3. Prayer to Thank God for Freedom
“For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,that we should no longer be slaves to sin – because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.” – Romans 6:6-7
The Lord has set us free from our greatest enemy – sin. That is something every believer can thank Him for freedom from sin, shame and death. This 4th of July, remember to pray that the people of America will know true freedom in Christ that will outlast this world, and carry on into eternity.
Dear God,
Thank You for making everyone one of us in Your glorious image. I am grateful that I get to celebrate the 4th of July, and the freedom that it has brought through all the years. It is a blessing to live in a country where we have human rights, and freedom. Thank You for all of the people who have served in our military and have given their lives. I think today of the many countries that are at war with Christians, and who persecute and rob them of their ability to worship You openly and freely.
Thank You for blessing us with the gift of worshiping You openly. Sometimes it is so easy to take this freedom for granted, and forget that so many desire to have what we have. Though we get to experience physical freedom as a nation, I know many people are still experiencing spiritual enslavement to sin and to this world.
I ask that You would open their eyes, and help them to acknowledge their sin and embrace Christ’s sacrifice. May they not only know physical freedom but spiritual and eternal freedom in Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
4. Prayer for Unity
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” – Galatians 5:13
Though freedom is a wonderful thing, it can be easily corrupted if we use it with the wrong motives and intentions. Spiritually, God has given believers freedom from sin, and peace with Him. We can misuse this freedom and indulge in sin, or we can look to the interests of others and serve them in a humble and God-honoring way. What better way to be united than to use our freedom to serve one another.
Father,
Thank You for blessing us with this wonderful day. Thank You for the reminder of our freedom and the grace that You have shown us as a nation. My prayer is that the 4th of July would be a celebration that brings this country together and unifies us. There have been so many divisions and barriers built against one another over time.
My hope is that this holiday will be a reminder to us that we have been called to stand as one nation. More than being united as an earthly nation, I ask that You would help us to be united as a holy nation. A nation that looks to You, and who has been redeemed by You. I pray for every person from those who are leading the country, to every citizen, that they would come to know You, and be united to You. May this country be led by You, and place its faith in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
5. Prayer For Wisdom For Our Nation’s Leaders
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” – James 1:5
There is a lot of pressure and weight on the shoulders of those who are in leadership. Sometimes it can be a lot easier to criticize leadership than to pray for leadership. One of the most important things we can pray for the nation’s leaders is that God will give them wisdom from above.
Dear God,
Thank You for those who have gone before us and have made the freedom that we as the United States experience today possible. I am thankful that You have placed brave men and women in our midst, who have paved the way forward for all of us.
Today, I want to pray for all those who are in leadership over our country, and who have the power to make decisions that can affect the people of America both negatively or positively. I lift up the president, the senate, congress and the House of Representatives. I ask that You would grant them wisdom in the decisions that need to be made.
Give them hearts that are responsive to Your word and Your ways. Keep them from relying on their own human wisdom and understanding, and lead them to seek Your truth. May they lead this country by example in their conduct and values. May they seek You for wisdom, guidance and strength. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
6. A Prayer That God’s Will May Be Done in Our Nation
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” – Matthew 6:10
God’s kingdom will come, and His will is going to be done. The greatest thing we can do is to be a part of it, and pray that our country would be a part of it too.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your mercy and kindness towards our nation. Today we remember the Christian values and precepts that this country was built on. It is saddening to see how many parts of the country have veered away from the foundation that made America the great country of freedom and unity that it once was.
I ask that You would remind us all that we are nothing apart from You. It is only through Your grace that this country has grown in the way that it has. Today I ask that You be the Lord of this country and of the people of America. While there is still opportunity, I ask that You lead them to repentance and faith in Christ.
May this country and its people seek Your will and not the desires of our flesh. May You be honored and lifted high among us. But most importantly, may Your will be done in this country just as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ name, amen.
