9 Mother’s Day Prayers

Use these Mother’s Day prayers to celebrate motherhood and the great moms in your life in a card, at a family brunch, at an event, or a church service.

Mother’s Day can bring up a lot of emotions for women about their own moms and their own desire and experience with motherhood.

  • Maybe your relationship with your mom was wonderful, and you can easily feel thankful for her and all the good she has brought to your life.
  • Maybe your relationship with your mom is more complicated, and the holiday brings up tougher emotions for you.
  • Maybe your mom has passed away, and this day brings up a mixture of gratitude and grief.
  • Maybe you feel lonely today, desperately wanting to be a mom, but struggling with infertility.

I’ve had the honor of praying for women in each of these situations and so many more. All of your experiences of moms and motherhood are valid, and you are allowed to feel things outside of pure gratitude as this holiday approaches.

I wrote some prayers for you below to give you some ideas and starting places for your own prayers for this holiday.

Whether that is simply thanking God for the mothers in your life, praying for mothers at a Mother’s Day event at your church, praying for those who have lost a child, writing a special card, and so many other circumstances, prayer is powerful – for your heart and your mom’s.

You can use these Mother’s Day prayers to pray for women and mothers all around the world and those who are special in your life.

1. A Short Mother’s Day Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You so much for the gift of my mom. What a blessing she’s been in my life—through all the years, all the memories, and all the seasons.

I’m so grateful for the way she’s supported me, encouraged me, and helped guide me with love and wisdom. Thank You that I can call her “mom,” and that she’s always just a call or hug away.

I pray she feels deeply loved today—not just by me, but by You. Fill her heart with Your peace, wrap her in Your love, and surround her with Your presence every day.

Please keep pouring Your blessings into her life—joy, rest, strength, and the desires of her heart.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

2. A Prayer Celebrating Motherhood

Lord,

Today I want to thank You for moms everywhere.

You created such a gift to us when You made mothers—women who are strong, nurturing, generous, and full of self-sacrificial love. I see so much of You reflected in the way moms care for their kids and show up day after day with open arms and open hearts.

Motherhood is no easy job, full of both joy and heartache, laughter and tears. But You see every moment, every act of service, every quiet prayer whispered over a child’s bed. And I just ask that You meet each mama right where she is today—with the strength, peace, and joy that only You can give.

Please remind her that what she does matters, even when it feels thankless. Fill her up with Your love and help her reflect that love to her family, knowing she is deeply valued and held by You.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

3. A Prayer To Say Before A Mother’s Day Brunch

Father,

Thank You for this beautiful day, for the food in front of us, and most of all—for moms.

Today, we celebrate the amazing women who’ve loved us, cared for us, prayed for us, and poured so much of themselves into our lives. What a gift they are.

As we gather for this meal, we ask You to bless each mom here and every mother around the world. Thank You for their constant care, their sacrifices, and their heart for their families.

We could never fully put into words all that they do or the impact they have—but You see it all. So, Lord, we ask that You bless them abundantly. Let them feel seen, loved, appreciated, and wrapped in Your presence today.

May this time together be full of laughter, connection, and gratitude for the amazing gift of motherhood.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

4. A Prayer Of Gratitude For Your Mom In A Mother’s Day Card

Dear Lord,

Thank You so much for the gift of moms—especially mine. What a blessing she is.

When I think about everything she’s done for me—the sacrifices, the love, the way she’s always been there—I’m just overwhelmed with gratitude. Thank You for choosing her to be my mom. I truly couldn’t imagine a better one.

Thank You for the strength You’ve poured into her and for the way Your love shines through her—sometimes in her words, sometimes in her hugs or prayers, and even in all the little things she does without saying a word.

Through her, You’ve guided me, loved me, and shown me what it looks like to live with faith and compassion.

Lord, I pray that this Mother’s Day is full of Your peace, joy, and blessings for her. Help her to feel just how deeply she’s loved—not just today, but every day.

Thank You for the gift she is in my life. I’m so grateful for all the ways she’s loved me, taught me, and helped shape who I am.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Dear God,

What a gift it is to celebrate the moms in our church family today. Thank You for the life, love, and strength You’ve poured into each one of them.

You’ve created moms with such tenderness and purpose. We know the road of motherhood isn’t easy, but You’ve equipped them for every step—and it shows in the way they love, lead, and care for their families.

We lift up every mother here with us today, and those who couldn’t be here too. Cover them in Your kindness. Fill them with joy, hope, and peace that only You can give. Please meet them in their needs, quiet their anxious thoughts, and refresh their souls.

May they lean into You for wisdom, strength, and grace—and may that overflow into their homes and hearts.

In Jesus’ name,

8. A Mother’s Day Prayer For Women Who Have Lost A Child

Heavenly Father,

Today we remember the moms who are carrying grief instead of (or along with) joy this Mother’s Day.

Whether their loss came through miscarriage, stillbirth, illness, or tragedy, You know the weight of their sorrow. No one expects to say goodbye to a child. It’s a pain that words can’t fully express—but You see it all.

Cover these hurting hearts in Your comfort today. Let them feel Your nearness, knowing you see and know them. Let them know that You haven’t forgotten their pain or their child. You weep with them, and You hold them close.

Give them strength for the hard days and peace that goes beyond understanding. May they find hope in You and joy in the sweet memories they carry.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

9. A Prayer For Women Who Want To Be Mothers But Haven’t Been Able To Have A Child

Dear God,

As we celebrate moms today, our hearts are also tender for the women who long to be mothers but haven’t yet seen that dream fulfilled.

You know every tear, every prayer, and every moment of waiting. You see the hurt only shown behind the scenes, the ache behind the celebrations, and You care so deeply about their pain.

Please comfort their hearts today. Hold them close in their disappointment and grief. Remind them that they are not forgotten—that You see, You hear, and You are still writing their story.

We pray for healing where there’s been loss, for hope where there’s been heartache, and for peace where there’s been longing. Please bless them with the desires of their heart in Your perfect timing—and help them rest in Your love, no matter what.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
