As you make physical and mental preparations that will set you up for a healthy delivery, spiritual preparation will strengthen you and serve as an anchor that you can hold onto through your delivery until you’re holding your sweet newborn in your arms for the first time.

Scripture for Labor & Delivery

1. 2 Corinthians 12:9

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

There is nothing weak about growing an entire human being inside of you. When it comes to delivery it can be easy to lose sight of the wonderful ability that God has given your body.

You may feel as though you’re not able to do this but know that it is not your power but God’s power that will see you through. When you feel weak at any point throughout this process, lean on His strength which is sufficient for you.

2. Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Even when you’re surrounded by a support system during labor, the pain can feel like something you are bearing all on your own. If you find yourself feeling dismayed and discouraged during labor, know that God is there with you.

He will strengthen you and support you with His righteous right hand.

3. Psalm 121:1-2

I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

4. Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

God has given you the ability to not only carry this child as far as you have but according to His will, He will strengthen you to push through until the end, which is just the beginning.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

When your mind wanders during delivery, remember to keep your eyes on the Lord. There may be times that you don’t feel like you can keep pushing or that you will be able to endure the pain of a c-section, but know that He is right beside you.

He will not let you be moved and He will lift you if you are ever shaken.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Whether you labor for 10 minutes or 10 hours, know that God has a plan for this birth. Even if it is not good in our eyes, trust that He has your best interest at heart and that He will work all things out for your good in the end.

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

16. Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
