You’re pregnant – congratulations! Use this ultimate guide of pregnancy prayers for inspiration to pray through your pregnancy.

Praying For Your Baby From Day 1

What a wonderful mom you are already, looking for intentional ways to love and care for your baby from the moment you found out you were pregnant (and maybe even for years up until that point!).

Along with taking care of your body well, prayer is one of the most important ways to love your little one right now.

Praying for your baby right now has so many benefits. It can help you:

  • deepen your own relationship with the Lord
  • strengthen the bond between you and your baby
  • experience a peace that passes understanding when your hormones are all over the place
  • learn about God’s nature in this new & exciting season
  • gain wisdom and confidence as you ask for God’s help for you and your baby
  • fight against worry, anxiety, and doubt in this new season with lots of unknowns
  • deepen your trust in Him, relying on the Lord in ways you never have before
  • align your will with God’s as you talk to Him
  • give you “faith eyes” to see yourself, your baby, and your pregnancy as more than just the day-to-day things (like those days full of pregnancy insomnia, aches, pains, and morning sickness!), but a grand, purposeful part of God’s Kingdom

And, of course, the hope is that this habit of prayer for your child will continue throughout their life through every season.

Remember, prayer is just talking to God. You don’t need to overcomplicate it or put pressure on yourself to say just the right words. Just share your hopes, desires, worries, and thoughts with God.

The prayers below are meant to give you ideas and inspiration for your own prayer life.

Bible Verses To Pray Over Your Pregnancy

One of the best places to start in praying for your baby is to pray through Scripture. God breathed some beautiful words for us to use in our own prayer lives, full of His promises, encouragement for our weary hearts and bodies, and arrows that point us back to Him.

Here are a few of my favorite Bible verses to pray over your unborn child.

Psalm 139:13-16

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Psalm 139:13-16 (NIV)

Lord, thank You for fearfully and wonderfully making this sweet baby of mine in a Divine way only Your hands could – skillfully knitting every cell together in their body. Your are creating their inmost being as I speak and I know they are already a wonderful work of Your hands. Thank You for this beautiful gift of life and for choosing me to be their mom. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

1 Samuel 1:27-28

I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.

1 Samuel 1:27-28

God, thank You for hearing my prayer to be a mom and answering with this sweet baby. I lift them up to You right now, dedicating their whole life to You. You are good, You are faithful, and You are worthy to be praised. Help me to raise my baby knowing all about Your goodness, with a deep desire to worship You with their whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. Amen.

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Heavenly Father, help me to trust You with every step of this pregnancy. It’s so easy to worry about things out of my control and I ask You now to please cover me in your peace that passes all understanding. Guard my mind against unhelpful thoughts and my heart from worry in Christ Jesus. Help me to turn to you at the first sign of doubt, uncertainty, stress, and anxiety to protect my mind and my body for my own sake and my baby’s health. Amen.

Blessings To Speak Over Your Unborn Baby (& A Blessing For You)

Blessings are a bit different than a prayer. A prayer is you talking directly to God while a blessing is speaking God’s promises and Truths directly over a person (in this case, the precious baby in your belly)

Blessings For Your Unborn Baby

Speak these blessings over your baby.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)

May you love genuinely, hate what is evil, and cling to what is good in your life. (Romans 12:9)

May you always know you are a reward, a precious gift from God. (Psalm 127:3)

May you always praise the Lord with your life and your voice. (Psalm 8:2)

Blessing For Pregnant Mom

And, now, a blessing especially for you.

May the Lord bless you with a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. May this pregnancy draw you nearer to God, deepening your relationship with Him more than ever before. May you lean into His strength whenever you feel weak. May you feel His peace that passes understanding and His unending love for you and your baby. May you experience His goodness more and more every day.

Pregnancy Prayers For Each Trimester

Trimester 1

Lord, thank You for this baby and how You are already wonderfully and perfectly creating them in Your image. I pray that You would protect me against miscarriage and bring health to my body and to this precious new body growing inside of me.

Help my baby’s spinal cord, brain, and organs to form during this first trimester. What a miracle to know that You are already sculpting my baby’s head, nose, toes, and fingernails!

Help me to handle all of these changes in my body – the fatigue, the morning sickness, the insomnia, and just not quite feeling like myself. In any suffering I may experience in my pregnancy, help me to turn that suffering into perseverence, character, and hope (Romans 5:3-5).

Help me to bond with this baby and love them well as I follow the example You’ve set for me with Your unfailing love.

Thank You for this exciting season of my life and for this miracle of new life You’ve blessed me with. Help me to always remember what a precious gift this baby is to me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Trimester 2

God, thank You for a safe first trimester. As we enter the second trimester, I ask You to be near to us.

As my baby starts to move and kick, I pray this would begin a lifetime of using their body to honor You as a little image-bearer.

As my baby starts to hear my voice, I pray that You would help them to be even more sensitive to Yours, tuning into Your Truth above all other voices, temptations, and distractions in their life.

As You draw their unique fingerprints and toeprints, I pray that You would always show them that You created them uniquely on purpose and this world needs them to leave an imprint only they can make.

Help me to care for my body well in my eating, my movement, and my rest, as a temple of Yours and a home to my baby. Thank You for loving us so well. In Your Son‘s precious name, I pray. Amen.

Trimester 3

Heavenly Father, we’re in the final stretch! Help me to navigate all of the emotions I’m feeling right now – fear, excitement, uncertainty, and so many other emotions. Remind me to turn to You with each and every one of them – the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Help my baby’s lungs to be healthy and fully develop before delivery so they can take deep breaths to bring their body all of the air it needs in life.

This trimester, my baby can start to differentiate light and darkness and I pray they would be able to see that with not only their eyes, but also their faith. Help them to always hear Your tender voice guiding them to the light and help them to bring Your light into any darkness. Help them to see right and wrong and use Your Holy Spirit to guide them through life with conviction and wisdom when the enemy tried to lure them away with shame and condemnation.
