Just like every other part of life, work can sometimes be stressful. Whether you’ve recently started a new job, or have been at your job for a while, or are worried about the possibility of a new job interview, work stress can affect your performance, quality of life, and your overall health.
Work stress can also come in many different shapes and sizes. If you’re new to a job, you may feel stressed out by all the new tasks and responsibilities that you have. Perhaps the new environment is giving you anxiety, and you just need more time to settle in.
But if you’ve been at the same job, you may find that a lot of your stress comes from the workload that you have, conflict in the workplace, colleagues, management or bosses. The list goes on, and there may be many specific stressors that you are experiencing at work.
Whether you love what you’re doing, or not, we can all feel the pressure and stress of work at times. In those moments it can feel overwhelming, discouraging and hard to cope with.
If you’ve been feeling down and out about work, or you have felt stressed over a particular issue at work, these prayers for stress at work are just for you.
Even while you’re at work, Philippians 4:6-7 rings true. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
You can bring the work burdens and stressors that you’re carrying to God in prayer, and find His peace.
Bible Verses To Hold On To When Work Is Stressful

It’s important not only to pray through those stressful situations at work. Many times it helps to have a Bible verse that you can turn to when those moments arise. They give us an opportunity to truly meditate on God’s word, on what He says, and on His promise of peace to those who ask Him.
Here are a few bible verses that you can use alongside the prayers for stress at work. Write these down, commit them to memory, and remind yourself of God’s word when those times show up.
1. John 14:27-28
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. 28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
2. Psalm 55:22
Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
3. Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
4. Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
4 Prayers for Stress At Work
1. Prayer for God’s Peace Amid Stress At Work
Father,
Thank You for a new day, and for providing me with a job. I am so grateful that I am able to work, and for all the skills and opportunities that You have given me. I must admit that I have really grown anxious at work.
I know that You give peace to those who ask for it. I desperately need Your peace at work. I am struggling to stay peaceful when there are so many things happening, and those around me have added to the burden.
The pressures that I am facing at work are stressful and overwhelming. It has made going to work feel like a dreadful task, and I don’t want it to feel that way. Please help me to bring all of the anxieties, issues and concerns that I face to You in prayer.
When I feel overcome with stress, help me not to respond out of frustration to take a moment to seek You in prayer. Help me to start my day seeking You, and to enter the workplace with Your word at the forefront of my mind.
Help me to remember that You are with me in every instance, and that Your peace is always available to me. Help me to add to the peace rather than the stress of the workplace.
Even when things get overwhelming, or conflict arises, help me to remain steady, and unmoved. Please fill me with Your peace, and remind me that You are always with me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
2. Prayer for Those Dealing with Stressful Bosses
Lord,
Today I want to pray for my situation at work. I know that You have kept me, and that You always take care of me. That is why I know I can bring my concerns and stress from work to You in prayer.
I know that certain people have been placed in leadership and management positions over us in companies. We might not always see eye-to-eye with those in leadership, or agree with their methods, but I know that there is a degree of submission that You call us to.
Please help me to find common ground with my boss, and not to further build a wall between us. I confess, it has not been easy working with, or under my boss, and it has caused me lots of stressful days and nights.
I don’t want to live in a fearful or stressful state whenever I am around my boss. I know that it is not healthy, and that it only drives a deeper wedge in between us, and also affects the quality of my work poorly.
My prayer is that You would help me to deal with my boss in a way that is kind, and patient, even when that might not be how they treat me. Help me to know when to raise concerns, and give me wisdom in how to do that.
Whenever I feel frustrated, or want to act on my flesh, instead of the Spirit, please remind me that I am ultimately working for You, and not for a human master. Nevertheless, help me to seek peace as far as it is up to me, and to be gracious towards my boss, as You are to me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
3. Prayer for Peace In Work Conflict
Dear God,
Thank You for giving me my job, and allowing me to have an opportunity to provide for the things and people that are important to me. Though not every day is the same, there are days when conflict at work becomes a great stressor for all those involved, including me.
It’s so easy to team up against one another, or to gossip in the workplace. I know neither of these behaviors are productive, and only further divides us, instead of uniting us as a team.
My prayer is that You would help myself and my colleagues learn to work with one another, instead of against one another. If there are any issues, help us to address them in a respectful way.
Please keep us from dealing maliciously with one another. Help us to seek peace with each other. Help us be patient, kind, forgiving, and helpful to one another. If there is conflict, help us to seek solutions, instead of pointing fingers.
I ask that You fill the conflicting situations at work with Your peace. Help everyone involved to not only think of themselves, but to consider one another, and seek out how we can move forward. In Jesus’ name, amen.
4. Prayer for Peaceful Work Environment
Lord,
Wherever You go, there is peace. When we welcome You into a situation, and ask that You fill it with Your peace, You’re able to change the atmosphere. More than ever, my work environment is in need of Your peace.
There is so much stress, and tension at work, it is hard for anyone to feel at peace. The weight of our work has grown to become heavy. The deadlines that need to be met feel as though they are quickly approaching. Yet, the tasks sometimes feel unmanageable.
I know that I am not the only person who feels this way right now. I know that I have colleagues who feel plagued with stress, and the heavy load of work. It is not only the stress of work that burdens us, but the responsibilities that we face outside of work too.
Even if the work does not change, my prayer is that You will make a change in the environment that we are in. Please fill the place with Your peace, and help each of us to gain a clear focus, and find renewed strength.
I ask that You would help us all to seek Your peace at work. Help us to be at peace with one another, as far as it is up to us. Please keep our environment free from gossip, slander, deceit and drama. Help us to contribute to the peacefulness of our work atmosphere. In Jesus’ name, amen.
