13 Christian Blessings For Weight Loss

If you are looking for Christian motivation to lose weight, read these 13 blessings for weight loss to inspire, encourage, and motivate you on your journey.

I absolutely love my church. I love the intensely vulnerable emotion in our worship leader. I really respect my pastor’s strong biblical foundation mixed with his heart for authenticity.

But my favorite part of every Sunday morning is the last few minutes of the service when the pastor speaks a blessing over the congregation.

Every week, I hold out my outspread hands, eager to receive and experience the words of life spoken over us.

It’s inspiring, motivating, and so very encouraging.

That’s why I want to speak words of life into you.

I really don’t care how much you weigh (though, of course, I desire you to be healthy!), but I DO care about your heart.

I’ve lost 100 pounds and I understand the long list of struggles when it comes to weight loss – choosing the right diet, motivating yourself to exercise, and making the healthy choices day in and day out when those unhealthy choices sound so much easier and more appealing.

The Christian motivation to lose weight is not about your dress size, but about treating your body well to be healthy and whole in Christ.

Realizing that changed the entire focus of my weight loss journey. Lifelong outward changes don’t happen without a heart-shift. That’s where these blessings come in.

So, if you are feeling unmotivated, discouraged, disheartened, frustrated, impatient, or like a failure, read on!

Hands open in prayer - 13 Blessings for Weight Loss

What Is A Blessing Anyway?

So, what is a blessing anyway? Is it different than praying for someone?

When we pray for someone else, we talk directly to God, bringing those requests and struggles to Him.

When we bless someone, we speak words of Truth that echo Scripture directly to that person.

One of the most common blessings from the Bible is from the book of Numbers.

“The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

Numbers 6:24-26

The beauty of blessings (and Scripture!) is that they become even more powerful when you can speak them into specific situations (like your weight loss journey).

My hope for you is that the blessings below will inspire, motivate, encourage, and uplift you, wherever you are in your weight loss journey.

They should serve as a reminder of who you are in God’s eyes, not the world’s (because, let’s face it, the world has painted a very specific picture of what weight loss should look like).

Blessings For Weight Loss

Personalize these blessings below for whatever you are going through in your weight loss journey.

Whether you are struggling with emotional eating, insecurities about the way you look, discouragement after trying and failing on so many diets, or just wanting to give up after not getting the results you are looking for, these blessings for weight loss can help meet you right where you are.

1. What Makes You Beautiful?

May you find your beauty, not in your weight or any trait only visible on the outside, but from your spirit. And may you feel how precious you are in God’s sight because of that gentle and quiet spirit inside of you that only grows stronger and more beautiful every day.

“Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.”

1 PETER 3:3-4

2. You Are Worth It

May you know without a doubt that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit inside of you. May you realize that you are worth Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and may you treat your body kindly, glorifying God in your eating, your exercise, and all of your actions.

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.”

1 CORINTHIANS 6:19-20

3. You Are Strong Enough

May you trust God’s faithfulness in moments of temptation, resting in the security of knowing that He will always show you another way. May you continue to grow in self-control and know that you are strong enough to resist temptation because you have Christ in you.

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

1 CORINTHIANS 10:13

4. You Are A Living Sacrifice

May you offer your body to the Lord as a living sacrifice every single day, turning every action, meal, and workout into an act of worship. May you realize your imperfect body is holy and pleasing to God. May you sacrifice the things you love for the One you love more every single day.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship.”

ROMANS 12:1

5. Glorify God In Your Eating And Drinking

May you glorify God in your eating and your drinking and everything you do while keeping food in its proper place in your life, knowing God will fulfill all of your emotional needs.

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

1 CORINTHIANS 10:31

6. Grow In The Fruit Of The Spirit

May you flourish and become more and more whole as you grow in self-control, patience, faithfulness, and all of the fruit of the Spirit.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

GALATIANS 5:22-23

7. You Are God’s Handiwork

May you know that you are a masterpiece, created by God to live powerfully and purposefully, doing good works for Christ.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

EPHESIANS 2:10

8. You Are Pleasing To God

May you break free from trying to live up to others’ expectations or gain approval from people in your life and may you experience the true freedom that comes from being a servant to Christ alone.

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

GALATIANS 1:10

9. Know Better, Do Better

May the Lord grant you wisdom and show you the path that you should walk. May He grant you the strength and self-control to choose well, doing good, avoiding sin, and serving Him every step of the way. May you have open eyes to see His guidance and an obedient heart to follow in His footsteps.

“If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”

JAMES 4:17

10. When You Feel Like Giving Up

May you never grow weary in doing good. May you cling onto hope for the future God promised you, full of abundant blessings. May you feel a greater purpose behind every decision you make, knowing every healthy choice you make matters and contributes to your harvest.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

GALATIANS6:9

11. Throw Off Sin

May you keep running ahead with perseverance, recognizing even the smallest sin creep in and throwing off every distraction that would keep you from living fully for Christ.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

HEBREWS 12:1

12. You Are Strong

May you have confidence in how strong you are as a child of God. May you bring your great expectations to the feet of Jesus and allow His strength to work through you to do extraordinary things.

I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

PHILIPPIANS 4:13

13. Joy In The Journey

May you experience joy in your trials because of the confidence you have in Christ. May you choose to keep moving forward through your struggles, confident that God is using this too for your good. May you grow in maturity and wholeness as you choose perseverance in the face of hardship.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

James 1:2-4
