10 Bible Verses for Your Weight Loss Journey

| | | | | | |

Use this ultimate guide to Bible verses for your weight loss journey for Scriptures on emotional eating, temptation, gluttony, & more!

When people ask me about how I lost 100 pounds, they are almost always expecting me to answer with some miracle diet or workout plan.

The truth is, one of the most powerful things that helped me lose weight and keep it off is Bible verses!

Let’s face it – losing weight is hard. It’s usually a much slower process than you want it to be, and it’s so easy to get discouraged, disheartened, and believe that it’s just not worth all the work when you don’t see the progress that you feel like you should.

The good news is, that you don’t have to just give in to the discouragement (the Bible shows you how to have endurance when you feel like giving up).

You have all the tools you need to fight back and the best tool of all is the double-edged sword of God’s Word.

How To Use Bible Verses In Your Weight Loss

I know how easy it is to skim through posts like this and nod at their truths…then click away from the page and forget all about them.

If you want these verses to actually impact your life, I would highly encourage you to pick the ones that resonate most with you and memorize them.

  • write the Scriptures on notecards
  • use a dry erase marker to write the Bible verses on your bathroom mirror
  • make the verse the lock screen on your phone
  • go through Less of Me: A 30-Day Weight Loss Devotional for more faith-focused encouragement from my own 100-pound weight loss journey
  • ask God how these Bible apply to your life right now
  • journal your thoughts and feelings as you read through each verse and how they apply to your weight loss journey

That way, when those negative thoughts rush in (like when you step on the scale and see that you gained a stinkin’ pound instead of losing after you worked so hard!), you are ready to push them out of your mind with the Truth.

Losing weight is easier when you bring Scripture in! Use these 10 Bible verses for your weight loss journey to add power, hope, motivation, & encouragement.

Body Image

1. 1 Peter 3:3-4

Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.

1 Peter 3:3-4
10 Bible Verses for Your Weight Loss Journey : So Very Blessed - Losing weight is not nearly as hard when you bring Scripture in! Use these 10 verses to add power, hope, motivation, & encouragement to your journey.

I know that a big part of losing weight is about changing your appearance. I get that you want to lose your muffin top and that bothersome flab that hangs down under your bicep! But I’m telling you, it’s about more than that.

Physically, making healthier choices can start to change your insides (like how your internal organs are functioning) long before you can see anything different on the outside.

And, as Christians, that extra weight is often a symptom of something else going on in your heart; something that is holding you back from experiencing true freedom in Christ.

Get to the root of the problem, the heart of the real issues, and focus more on those things than what your body looks like on the outside (or that pesky number on the scale!).

Glorify God In Your Eating

2. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
10 Bible Verses for Your Weight Loss Journey : So Very Blessed - Losing weight is not nearly as hard when you bring Scripture in! Use these 10 verses to add power, hope, motivation, & encouragement to your journey.

Your body is more important than you give it credit for, and taking care of it has a greater purpose than looking good, attracting men, or fitting into a smaller pant size.

You have a calling, a purpose for your life, and taking care of your body is about glorifying God!

Your body houses the Holy Spirit and your food choices, your exercise, your sleep, and how much water you drink – it all matters to God!

Check out these 5 ways to glorify God in your eating.

Resisting & Overcoming Temptation

3. 1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

1 Corinthians 10:13

I know what it’s like to go up against temptation, especially when it comes to food.

For years, I let that voice of temptation win out and dictate my decisions (and I’d end up eating an entire box of Nutty Bars in one sitting). I didn’t fight back against it much, because the food simply sounded so good!

Letting temptation win over and over again led to obesity, a long list of insecurities, and so many other consequences for me.

It’s not worth it. Combat those temptations with Truth! God will provide another way. Take the time to stop and look for it. Put up a fight and don’t let temptation win!

Offering Yourself As A Living Sacrifice

4. Romans 12:1

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship.

Romans 12:1

Have you ever thought about exercise as a form of worship? It is! (Here are more Bible verses on exercise.)

I know exercise is hard and you probably don’t think it’s all that much fun! But offering your body as a living sacrifice means giving Him your best, even when it’s not the easiest path.

Every time you make a healthy choice that you know is good for your body (especially when a not-so-healthy choice is tugging at you) for Him, you are worshipping God.

Don’t just lift your hands and your voice to Him on Sunday – worship Him with your body, mind, and soul!

Emotional Eating

5. 1 Corinthians 10:31

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

10 Bible Verses for Your Weight Loss Journey : So Very Blessed - Losing weight is not nearly as hard when you bring Scripture in! Use these 10 verses to add power, hope, motivation, & encouragement to your journey.

Yes, God cares about what you eat! He created our bodies in such a way that we need certain nutrients to survive.

Eat vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. (Check out these Bible verses on healthy eating.)

Don’t just do it because you know it’s good for you or to get your doctor to stop hounding you.

Don’t do it for the Instagram picture to prove that you ate a salad this week (though I do love all of those healthy meal pictures on Instagram!).

Do it for God. Glorify Him in every aspect of your life, including your diet!

When we reach for food when we are stressed, bored, or exhausted, we are asking food to fix a problem it was never meant to fix (and it’s able to fix!).

Developing the habit of going to food before we even lift our problem up in prayer to God is a problem and can easily and subtly shift into making food an idol in your life.

Emotional eating is one of the biggest problems in most peoples’ weight loss journeys, but you can absolutely overcome this stronghold with God’s help.

Check out more Bible verses on emotional eating and don’t forget to listen for God’s voice, even in the midst of your emotional eating.

Grow In Character

6. Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

10 Bible Verses for Your Weight Loss Journey : So Very Blessed - Losing weight is not nearly as hard when you bring Scripture in! Use these 10 verses to add power, hope, motivation, & encouragement to your journey.

There was a defining moment in my weight loss journey when I knew it was no longer just a food or a weight problem I was dealing with. I was dealing with a character issue.

I was lying about my eating, hiding food, taking treats from loved ones, and hoarding them for myself. I had a self-control issue.

All of the characteristics in this verse are important to nurture, but don’t miss the “self-control.” You can be a kind, good, and loving person and still lose all control when a certain food is set in front of you.

You know when you are tempted to throw that self-control out the window.

Maybe it’s when you’re standing in front of a buffet and want to stuff yourself silly or you bake a triple-layer chocolate cake and want to eat the entire thing in one night.

Don’t pick and choose which fruit of the Spirit to include in your life. Work on all of them, including reigning yourself in to do what’s good for you instead of just what sounds good at the time.

That includes self-control is about saying no to overindulging on chocolate, but also getting out of bed to get your workout in, too!

Read more Bible verses on self-control here.

Overeating & Gluttony

7. Proverbs 25:27

“It is not good to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable to search out matters that are too deep.”

10 Bible Verses for Your Weight Loss Journey : So Very Blessed - Losing weight is not nearly as hard when you bring Scripture in! Use these 10 verses to add power, hope, motivation, & encouragement to your journey.

Gluttony is one of the most glossed-over sins in the Bible. You can walk into a church potluck full of kindhearted, godly people and see overindulgence at every corner.

The overflowing dessert table itself is not a sin – take some and savor it! But don’t have too much of a good thing.

Gluttony is such an uncomfortable word to use, but gluttony just means regularly eating more than your body needs. You can read more about what the Bible has to say on gluttony here.

Research shows that your taste buds get tired easily, so even the most decadent things don’t taste as good after the first few bites. Serving sizes are generally a good guideline, but you need to determine what “too much” is for you.

This is not meant to punish or deprive you, it’s to protect you! God knows the physiological effects of overindulging, and He wants what’s best for you, so heed His warning. Stop before you hit the point of “too much.”

Self-Esteem & Self-Worth

8. Ephesians 2:10

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

10 Bible Verses for Your Weight Loss Journey : So Very Blessed - Losing weight is not nearly as hard when you bring Scripture in! Use these 10 verses to add power, hope, motivation, & encouragement to your journey.

As I mentioned earlier, you have a purpose! You were created to do good works and often your weight can hold you back from doing those things.

Maybe it’s physical, because you aren’t able to do some activities, or you just don’t have the energy or stamina to do them. Maybe it’s more emotional because your insecurities are telling you that you can’t possibly do those things.

And, often, when our view of ourselves doesn’t line up with what God says about our self-esteem and self-worth in the Bible, it drives us to overeat even more.

Study up on God’s love for you.

Break through the things that are holding you back and live your life knowing that you are God’s handiwork, created to do good works.

Step out of your comfort zone. Be vulnerable. Get out there and serve!

Fear of Failure

9. Galatians 1:10

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

10 Bible Verses for Your Weight Loss Journey : So Very Blessed - Losing weight is not nearly as hard when you bring Scripture in! Use these 10 verses to add power, hope, motivation, & encouragement to your journey.

The comparison trap is a very real and very dangerous thing to fall into. Spend 5 minutes on Facebook and you can see it in action!

You compare your body, your spouse, your vacations, your kids, your strengths, and your talents to everybody else’s, and you are most likely left feeling inadequate and jealous.

Don’t get stuck there!

You were created to be uniquely you. Spend your energy being thankful for your body, your family, and your strengths, instead of wasting it on wishing you had somebody else’s.

Win the approval of God, which only happens when you live out life as you, not imitating someone else.

Having a fear of failure is so normal and common, but it doesn’t have to stop your progress. Use these Bible verses on fear of failure to help you process that fear and move forward.

Making A Plan With Intentionality

10. James 4:17

“If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”

10 Bible Verses for Your Weight Loss Journey : So Very Blessed - Losing weight is not nearly as hard when you bring Scripture in! Use these 10 verses to add power, hope, motivation, & encouragement to your journey.

You don’t always know what to do – what foods are healthiest for you, what exercises are best for your body, how to get a better night of sleep, or what changes you should be making in your life.

It can feel overwhelming, especially with the internet full of fad diets and “magic” weight loss products bombarding you at every turn.

Don’t hold yourself to a bar of perfection, expecting to know all of the right answers, but once you learn, act.

Take your good intentions and turn them into action.

Use these 10 goal-setting questions with prayers to help you start.

I absolutely believe that you can experience food freedom.

Whether you have been fighting to lose weight for 5 years or 50, whether you are 25 or 75.

  3. Great article and Scriptures! I have struggled with my weight for at least 40 years (just turned 66) and my health was really suffering. I cried out to God because I could see that I was killing myself and I didn’t want to die! I am now 100.4 lbs down!!! Over halfway to my goal and have no doubt I will get there for the first time in my life. God will work miracles that will leave you speechless as He has for me. This is the easiest time I have ever had losing weight and I’ll never go back to my old way. Trust God! He will make it happen!

I am so encouraged and believe this is an answer to my prayer.

I have followed advice and tried everything in the natural to loose weight but have not applied the Word of God. I’m starting right now on this journey with Him and I’m determined to do it His way, He knows best and it will bring lasting results.

  5. I am doing a small group at my church and we are working on our journey to a healthier mind and a healthier body. I cant wait to share these with the ladies. Love the design

  7. Hi I have put on a lot of weight and get out of breathe all the time. I have started dieting and I just really want to keep it up what can I do to ensure I don’t fall of the band wagon

  8. I’m excited to read through these scriptures. I’m 109 lbs over weight. Pain head to toe. Frustrated beyond words. Drs can’t find an answer. I’m hoping this helps as I seek God’s help.

  9. So many people deny themselves everything but food. Pharisees are easy to spot. So are those who go to the gym too much and waste time trying to be perfect.

I know a girl who prides herself on her triceps. Seriously. I think she’s the only one who notices them.

  10. Hi Becky, just came across this site of yours today. And im looking through all these comments hoping to find some success stories, and they are all new readers, anticipating good results but no stories. I know that anticipation is important. But I need more then that right now, and of course I will apply myself to these suggestions and scriptures. But success stories is what I need and was so surprised to not see any with all these posted comments. I have LOTS of food allergies, and of course overweight. Resent surgery, and physical issues that kept me from exercising then, and even now. So I’m going to follow you through this journey, and remember you in my success, and post my success to encourage someone who is searching as I am. Because I truly feel that all these other posts, if they really did follow you, they must have forgotten all about you once they hit their goal.

    1. Hi Carolyn. Most women who read this blog post are coming here for help, so they aren’t quite at the place of success (yet), but I have TONS of success stories I can share with you from women who have gone through our Faithful Finish Lines 2.0 program. We have older women, younger women, women with food allergies, women with chronic illness, women who have kids, women who don’t…women who have lost 10, 25, and over 50 pounds.

I do hope you come back to share your success someday!

  11. Hi Becky,

First off, God is good. My tears are filling my eyes as I write this. I’ve struggled with my weight all my life, losing and gaining has been my model. I feel completely lost and the weight just keeps going up and up to where I’m embarrassed of myself, I shut myself out and don’t want to even be seen by friends and family. In a desperate search for help I came across your blog, I love what I see. I love all the encouragement, knowledge and support you give to your readers. THANK YOU so much for allowing your own experience be a light to someone else’s darkness. I Love you for it, God Bless You always 🙏😃

    1. Hi Leida! I am SO glad you found my site! Yes, God is so good – all the time! I so relate to your struggles and frustrations and wanting to just shut yourself away from friends and family. I’ve been there, wishing I could just hide away from everything! I’m so glad God is speaking His Truth into your life right now, though…whispering His love to you when you feel entirely unlovable (at least, that’s how I felt!). I’m so, so glad you’re here!

  12. Hi Becky!
I wanted to thank you personally for your obediance in sharing the gospel of Jesus to me and many others around the world, to encourage us whom are seeking for change!
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.”
    1 Thessalonians 5:11 HCSB
    https://bible.com/bible/72/1th.5.11.HCSB
Thats the scripture that comes to mind as I type this out to you.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 is the scripture that resantes with me. Through conviction of the sin of gluttony, I made the conscious choice of finally answering the tug in my spirit to make a change, I was callrd into a fast. I didnt realise I was out of control in my flesh that bad! But after coming out of a 9 day Daniel fast (I thought I was going to die without animal products!) with prayer and fasting I am more enlightened and see things for what they are, having “new vision” I guess you could say. What you have shared here adds some more fuel to my “want to be better tank”. Congratulations on your extreme weight loss and your choice to follow Jesus and stiring yourself up to keep moving forward. I pray you never lose encouragement to keep going.
I know God is smiling on you girl!

  15. Thank you Becky so much! I have been reading and reading this blog. It is so helpful. I have been overweight most of my adult life and have tried many diets with endless fails. Your blogs and articles are refreshing and give me hope! I’m going thru your 30 day book now and I find the focus on the Lord the missing part I needed. Thanks again and please pray for success for me. But even if I don’t lose much I am encouraged that I am doing new things that glorify God in my body and am feeling stronger.

  19. Hello Becky,

Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. like you,i have dealt with obesity my entire life.
i have tried different things, which all went well the first for months but i always ended up stopping.
this past April 16th,i had a full hysterectomy. i am 43 years old and have so much more energy than i can ever remember
having. i am still in recovery but am able to do some stuff. i cannot work my mid section as of yet but i have been working my legs and arms. i also have been changing my eating habits.

      1. Hi what do you do when you been eating right the major of your life and exercising and still can’t lose the weight. I am a Christian woman and believe this is the only option for me to be overweight. I enjoyed the article.

        1. Hi Annie! It’s tough to give you an answer to this when there are so many variables. Have you talked to your doctor about this? There could be an underlying medical condition like a thyroid disorder or it could be something more simple like underestimating your calorie intake by eyeballing portion sizes. There are many reasons this could be the case and I have a lot of weight loss tips on my site if you’d like to look through more posts here! I’m glad you’re here and I’m praying for you!

    1. You are so welcome, Marle! I absolutely love how God has used Scripture to teach me more about Him and His love for me through my weight loss journey!

Now I’m back again and i taking Jesus with me, this was a incredible read ,very inspiring and knowledgeable, can’t for the daily emails ! .please keep me prayer to be CONSISTENT on this weight loss thank you

  21. Hello Becky, I’m so grateful to my heavenly father for allowing me to run across this article. Thanks so much for sharing your story with us. This was such a wonderful blessing to read, I have been struggling with my weight for over 15 years I’ve been on every weight loss program in the book I’ve also been going to Physician after Physician for weight loss pills don’t get me wrong they’ll work for a moment and then I’m right back at square one. I’m tired of the weight loss roller coaster ride I’m ready to get off and stay off. I’m praying and believing God after today I shall have victory over this sweet tooth in the mighty name of Jesus. I’m going to give a update in about a month to tell you how the all mighty God blessed me, I’m currently 221 prayerfully I’m going to be 215 when I give my update. Once again thank you so much.

    1. Hi Verlie! I am so glad you found this post to be a blessing! Oh, I am so sorry about all the years of frustration you’ve dealt with on your weight loss journey. It’s so discouraging to have things work, but only temporarily and never bringing you any real progress! I’m praying for you right now that God will lead you in your weight loss journey as you lean into His strength. I can’t wait to hear your update!

  22. Becky thank you so much for this. I have to tell you that this is a God thing that I ran across this. I became a Christian a year ago and as a result of that I stop smoking cigarettes which in turn I gained 25 lb. I don’t eat healthy and I don’t exercise but recently after looking at the scale and getting really depressed I decided to change my eating habits and start walking. After a month of doing so I still did not lose anything and I started getting really discouraged to the point that I stopped walking and stopped eating healthy. I’ve always been a thin girl and able to eat whatever I want but when I turned 49 all of that changed so I guess my metabolism has slowed down a lot. Anyway to make a long story short this morning I was in my closet trying to pick out something to wear to church and every outfit I put on was way too tight I got so discouraged I even considered not going to church which is ridiculous I know. I never thought about praying to God about my weight loss because I thought that that would be a superficial prayer however this morning in my closet I asked God to please help me with my weight loss because I was at my wit’s end. I don’t usually get on Pinterest but today I decided to download it and I was looking through different Bible verse GIFs and I came across yours. At first I thought that it was just another gimmick and I wondered how scripture could help with weight loss I was skeptical but decided to read it through. About halfway through it it finally started to sink in and make sense what you were talking about and I get it now it makes total sense to me. When you think about bringing God into the perspective it kind of changes the whole way you look at food. Needless to say I’m going to give it a try because I believe that God answered my prayer this morning by sending me to your site thank you very much. And congratulations on your weight loss.

    1. Lisa, I am so excited that this post could be an encouragement to you! That discouragement is so frustrating when you’ve changed things in your life, but you aren’t seeing the results yet. Don’t give up! I firmly believe God cares about our weight loss. I used to think the same way – that it was a superficial prayer. But, with God, it’s not really about the weight. It’s about how the weight affects our lives and our hearts. Like you said, it made you feel depressed and it almost stopped you from going to church (which, by the way, isn’t silly at all and I’ve been in similar situations many times)! I’m so glad you stumbled on this post. Thanks so much for your comment!

  23. This read has truly blessed me the scriptures are perfect…i was doing so well about a month ago drinking a gallon of water a day and 30.min exercises then I allowed myself to get off track and I feel worst…i didn’t allow to lead and guide me I just did it knowing without him is worst than with him…im over 400 lbs and I’m believing God to rid 200lbs so please pray my strength to endure this time around and that I will remain determined and focused….havr blessed day and again this read has truly blessed and encouraged me tremendously

    1. Hi Lauren! I am praying that God will renew your spirit and continually remind you to lean on His strength when yours fails (because none of us have enough willpower or self-control to do this on our own!). You CAN do this. Just keep taking it one day at a time, one choice at a time.

  24. Thank you! such a blessing to read this! i’m starting my journey today but this time with God leading the way i’m excited for the changes! i haven’t been able to do on my own but God is so amazing i know i’m on my way! thanks again and blessings to you!

    1. I am so glad the post could be a blessing to you, Jackie! I am thrilled that you are putting God at the center of your weight loss journey! Keep me updated on how it’s going for you. 🙂

  25. Thank you so much for having this on the website and sharing as I struggle extremely bad with weight loss I am trying to lose 150 pounds and I’ve not been able to accomplish that for a couple years it’s like impossible and the doctor say I really have to lose it because of back issues and other health problems I just have to find more scriptures that can help me thank you for the ones you have posted God bless you

    1. You are so welcome, Tammy! Whatever you do, please don’t give up. So much of weight loss is trial and (a lot of) error. When something doesn’t work, it doesn’t make you a failure, it just means you are a step closer to finding a solution that works for you. Praying for you!

  26. WOW!!!!! Thank you so much Becky for your encouraging words and most importantly for pointing out God’s Word!!! God’s Word is so powerful and it is there for every situation in our lives. Currently, I’m at the end of week 3 of a 6 week weight-loss and exercise program that I joined. Finding your article has really blessed me because I was feeling very discouraged since I have not been losing the weight that I was expecting to lose. Week one I gained .8 lb instead of losing and week two I only lost 1.2 lb. I was really discouraged because I’ve been following all the rules with the food I’m supposed to be eating, drinking a gallon or more of water everyday and working out 5-6 times a week for 1.5 hours a day. When I joined this challenge I asked the Lord to help me seek Him more while I’m doing this so these verses and your article are perfect!!!! I know this is a slow journey and I should persevere and stick to it. You truly are an inspiration and may God continue using you for His glory!!! Blessings and much love – Jasmin

    1. You are so welcome, Jasmin! Weight loss is such a rollercoaster of emotions, isn’t it?! The scale just toys with you because it isn’t a real-time representation of your efforts. There are SO many positive changes you are making in your body with your healthy eating, water, and exercise choices that don’t show up on the scale! It sounds like you are doing amazing! Keep at it, one decision at a time. Every healthy choice you make makes a difference! Praising God for your faithfulness this morning! Thanks so much for your comment, Jasmin. And keep me updated on how your 6-week program goes!

      1. Thank you so much Becky for replying!!! I’ll definitely keep you posted on my 6-week challenge. Today, I’m starting week 4 so I have three more to go! I can’t wait to see my final results!!! May God bless you always!!! Love-Jasmin

  27. First, congrats for losing 100 pounds. I want to Thank GOD for you, because you really encouraged me! (I am literally crying as I type this), I have been up and down with my weight loss, in and out of the gym, and ALWAYS discouraged when I would over indulge in food. I always knew that GOD is in every aspect of my life, I just never thought about it in the manner and clarity that you just put it in. I cannot say “Thank You” enough for allowing GOD to use you. I am now ready to get back into the gym and do what I know is right, for GOD, my twins, my son, my husband, and myself!

    1. Hi, April! Oh gosh, your comment got me tearing up, too! I understand those feelings so well – that frustration and discouragement when you are working SO hard to change things. Please keep me updated on how it goes for you as you get back to the gym and healthier choices!! I am so stinkin’ excited for you and I just prayed for God to spark that fire in your soul to not only make, but truly desire those choices to glorify Him with your body and your life. <3

  28. Say a little prayer for me and my husband, Becky, as we start our weight loss journey (for the 100th time). We are starting it as a fast, but adding in exercise as well.

    1. Praying for you and your husband, Marina! That you both would be able to meet God on a deeper level as you work hard to honor Him in your diet and exercise.

  29. Thank you I am starting a new weight loss plan need to lose weight, after a few surgeries inactivity from recovery time didn’t help my weight so I’m back at the gym and eating right. I will be using God’s Word from your story on my journey with my family. Thanks again for the encouragement. Your story is inspiring. God bless! Please add me to your prayer list.

    1. I will absolutely pray for you, Evelyn. It’s so hard when medical issues are involved because you have to shift your priority to resting so that your body can heal, which can so easily break those healthy habits that took so much hard work to form! I’m excited to hear how it goes for you now that you are bringing God into the center of your weight loss journey! Please, keep me updated!

  30. Thank you so much!!. I woke this morning looking for scriptuers to start my fast on this subject. I came accross your testomony It brought me to tears and I kept thanking God. My husband and i want to start a family but i told myself that i wanted to be healthy before it all happens.God already gave us everything to start but it’s all up to us to move on it. Just reading all the encoragement really gives others Hope and being reminded that God gave us all a purpose in life . Reading this and listing to gospel music

    Being healthy .

    1. Wow, Mel! Thank you so much for sharing this with me! I am so excited for you to keep moving forward in your health and your relationship with God and I am praising Him that He was able to use my story to encourage you! I LOVE that song by Matt Redman and please keep me updated on your progress. You’ve got this!

  31. Thank you for taking the time to write this article. Ever since my last child, my weight has become a huge issue. No pun intended. I realized, weight was my barrier from being attractive. Having to deal with attracting the wrong type of attention, and failing GOD. Today, my mind loves GOD and I want to be healthy for HIM. I need to loose 60 lbs. Most of it has ridden with me for several years. Pray for me as I work through each pound. GOD is sending me through, “bootcamp”. My journey has begun with your article and 10 scriptures.
    Thank you again.
    Shalom!

    1. You are so welcome, Jireh! I will certainly pray for you and I am so excited that you are using these 10 verses as the foundation for your spiritual and physical “bootcamp”!

  32. Hi growing up I fully believed in, “When your down, get back up, dust yourself and keep moving” nothing seemed to stop my joy, happiness and strength. I was always fit and healthy, till a cold night in April of 2009, my 18 year old daughters life gets tragically cut off. You are so right that something else is going on when we eat a lot. Today I take food and eat and eat and eat without satisfaction. I am 30lbs overweight and full of health issues. I love the Lord but have stopped going to service. I feel yucky all the time. Please pray for me to get back on track with him and to make the sacrifice of getting back in shape to continue to live and SERVE again!

    1. Oh, I am so so sorry to hear about your daughter. I wish I could do more for you, but I will certainly pray for you – for your physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

  33. Hello, Becky thank you so much for your encouraging word. I am struggling with over eating and I want to eat healthier again. I began exercising (circuit training at a gym which I love) again two months ago. Overeating has afforded me muffin tops which is not a good look. You mentioned something in your devotions about something holding us back in experiencing true worship in Jesus Christ. That is a second time I’ve heard somebody tell me that so this is confirmation that I am to pray and ask God to show me what it is so I can get back on track with my healthier eating habits and outlook of who God made me to be. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Hi Sandra! You are so welcome and I love that it was confirmation of what the Lord has already been speaking to you! It sounds like you’re already on the right track and I’ll be praying that the Lord draws you even nearer to Him through it all.

    2. If tou don’t have cancer, you are ahead. I cut out junk after being diagnosed. Obesity and cancer go hand in hand. Cut out sugar totally. Eat fruits and veggies, alot. Berries, greens, lean protein. Search diet and cancer and it will take you back to foods provided by God…not man. You will feel so much better. No coke, alcohol etc. Drink clean water. And be blessed. God’s mercies are new every morning.

  34. I read your article. I loved it, I am dibetic and I am just fighting to get off 35lbs. and it is hard. It is hard for me to even exercise. My feet hurt I have good days and bad days, but I just need to ask God for his help. He helped me 30 years ago to quite smoking, when I ask him then for his help he took them right away. I have never touched another. I guess I have not really put God first with this loosing weigh. As of today I’m trusting the Lord to help me. Thank you for the bible verses. And thanks for encouragement. God bless you. Kathy Foley

    1. Wow, how amazing that God helped you to quit smoking! That’s such a powerful testimony. I’m so excited to hear that you are working on trusting the Lord in your weight loss journey now, too.

  35. Thank you so much for your input and scriptures to help me understand better what God wants me to do and not do. I have been struggling for years now with my weight. I have been misunderstood and abused most of my life by others. I have had enough and going to do what I need to do to loss the weight. I have already lost 20 lbs. Have 30 more to go.

    1. You are so welcome, Ellen! I am so sorry to hear about your bad experiences with others. People can be really cruel. Congratulations on being down 20 pounds! It sounds like you’re doing great!

  36. Thanks, so much! God has really been dealing with me about my weight and living a more discipline and healthier lifestyle. I prayed and asked God how to do this and He said to “use the Word”. In my research for scriptures concerning weight loss, I stumbled upon your page. Nothing, but God! Your lifestyle change is definitely an encouragement to me that it can be done!

    1. You are so welcome! I love that God spoke so clearly to you to turn to Scripture. It’s a wonderful instruction book. I’m so glad He brought you here!

  37. Awesome inspiration! The enemy uses unhealthy food as a weapon against us just like drugs habits and other lusts of the flesh. I was able to quit smoking through the power of the Holy Spirit, but never thought I could change my eating habits the same way until now. I quit smoking for 1 whole year with sheer will power but because I was relying on my own strength and attempting to “produce” the fruit of self control I lost to temptation. But when I asked God for His help He produced the self control and all I had to do was bear it. And I’ve bore it for going on 4years now praise God. Thank you for reminding me weight loss is no different. May God Bless your ministry abundantly!

    1. You are so right, April. And, wow, what a powerful testimony that you were able to quit smoking by relying on God! Thank you so much for your comment and your blessing!

  38. Just what I needed to hear. I am emotional eater. Have steadily been losing weight since July 2017. Still have 84 lbs to go. Getting tired and discouraged. I gained the weight over several years and I rationally know I won’t lose it overnite but still I get impatient . The road is so long.

    1. I’m so glad, Joanne! And good for you keeping up your consistency and persistence for almost a year now – that’s a huge accomplishment! I completely understand your impatience. It’s definitely a long haul, but so worth it in the end. Are you on Facebook? We have a wonderful Facebook group for Christian women losing weight and it’s a very supportive, encouraging place. I’d love for you to join us (and it’s free!) – https://www.facebook.com/groups/christianweightlossandfitness/

  39. This is for my mommy because she says she is fat but she is not.
me and my 2 brothers and my 1 sister tell her she is not fat but
she just will not listen. If you will please keep me and my family in prayer
so that me and my sibbilings can go home from Tamassee DAR School!

    1. Hi Trinity! I am so glad that you, your brothers, and your sister are there to encourage your mom. She sure is blessed to have such a kind daughter! I will be praying for your family.

  40. Thank you Becky! This is right on time! I read this and my eyes began to water. I never struggled with weight until after I had children. Your statement on acknowledging what is going on in the heart struck a chord with me. Your entire article blessed my spirit! With Gods help, I know that I can do this! May God abundantly bless you for your obedience and shedding light on the sin of gluttony. Keep me in your prayers as I learn to worship God with my entire being; soul, mind, and body!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words and blessing, Natalie! I am so excited to hear that the post spurred you on and know that I am stopping to pray for you right after I finish this comment. I am so excited to hear about the victories you are going to have as you offer your whole self up to Him!

  41. Hi Becky, thank you for your awesome work in God’s name. This morning God impressed me to look for Bible verses regarding weight loss and health. I need to lose weight and I struggle but my biggest concern is my 30 year old daughter. She is very overweight and even though she knows the tools for losing weight she cannot seem to follow through. She is beginning to have some health issues that can be alleviated if she loses weight. I know that with God all things are possible and I want to pray and have others pray for her. I am starting my own journey with you and want to put my girl in prayer for her to get motivated and put her faith in God. Sorry this is so long. God bless!

    1. Thank you so much for your encouraging words, Margie! I will definitely be praying for your daughter. I completely understand having all of the tools to lose weight, but not having the motivation to take action and use them I am so excited that God nudged you to start looking for Bible verses to strengthen you on your own health and weight loss journey. It is very possible that God will use your example to inspire and motivate your daughter to start making changes. I believe it’s nearly impossible to change those things in our lives by ourselves, but when you get other people involved, it changes everything. If your daughter lives near you, I encourage you to invite her into your journey as much as possible. Ask her to make healthy meals with you, try exercise DVDs or classes together, go on walks together, etc. Even if you don’t live near her, I hope you talk to her about those changes you are making often. It makes such a big difference! I am lifting both of you up in prayer this morning – that you would be able to rely on God’s almighty strength to take care of your bodies to honor Him!

  42. I have been struggling with weight loss for the past year. I was diagnosed with celiac disease and I have gained 15 pounds since. My weight won’t budge no matter what I do. I have tried everything! I need to get into serious prayer for this issue. Thank you for this post!

    1. You are so welcome, Jean! Thanks so much for sharing your struggle. When there are other factors (like celiac disease), it sure adds an extra level of difficulty to weight loss. But every time I get to the point of thinking, “I’ve done absolutely everything I can do and nothing is working”, I remember what a mighty God we serve and am so grateful that He makes seemingly impossible things possible. I just stopped to say a prayer for you. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  43. I am struggling with wait loss ,I am 42yrs old, I am a Christian married with two beautiful girls. I went for my check up on Tuesday and I was told I gained 15pounds im just 3months my feet heart when I walk,I get bad mood swing.I cry alot for just no reason.I what to loss 100 pounds I need help.

    1. Hi, Otiti! I am so sorry to hear you are struggling! Mood swings and crying a lot, along with the weight gain makes it sound like this is all related to hormones, but of course, there’s no way for me to know that for sure! Have you joined my email list? At the top of the page, there is a place for your name and email address and I have a guide full of tips to help you lose weight, along with extra support. Start by signing up there and as you read through things, feel free to email me about specific things you are struggling with and I’ll do my best to help! In the meantime, I just said a prayer for you.

  44. Very blessed by these verses. Though each is very familiar, your presentation made them even more special. Thank you.

May I print them, with your copyright info and share them with my weight accountability partners?

I’m so tired of this battle, I just want to be happy and loss the weight!

  47. EXCELLENT read! So very thankful I found it! It’s a whole new perspective on living a healthy life; it is so much more important to glorify God than to look cute in my jeans!

    1. You are so welcome, Edie! Congratulations on your weight loss last year! It really is a roller coaster and it can be so discouraging and disheartening! Adding God’s Word to the journey sure does add hope and purpose! Praying He blesses you today.

  49. This is quite inspiring. The word of God is so real and it provides solution to every problem. Thanks Becky for this wonderful post.

  51. Wow! These are awesome. Weight loss is a big journey, it takes a lot of strength, and where is a better place to get strength than from the word of God?
