30 Days of Juicing – Day 2
I’m choosing to call day 1, “the day of the giant red button”. The red button being food. And food being EVERYWHERE. We had just bought a box of Krave cereal that was calling my name. I moved it out of sight. One of the kids in my class had a birthday today and he brought donuts. I kindly refused. The PTO left candy in my mailbox. I gave it away.
And then I walked into Sprouts and immediately craved anything I saw: the bag of veggie chips, the rotisserie chicken, the block of cheese, and even the sprouted wheat bread (which I would normally avoid like the plague). But, I put on mental blinders and steered my cart straight back to the fruits and vegetables and started loading up my cart.
I felt like I was clearing out the store! I picked up watermelon, lemons, limes, pears, grapes, strawberries, oranges, grapefruit, plums, jicama, red peppers, baby spinach, celery, mint, and ginger root – all for $52.64.
I have no idea how long this stuff will last and I will probably be more picky about only choosing things on sale from now on, but right now my goal is to try stuff out. See what I like, what I don’t, and what stuff goes together.
I have to say, I was most excited about trying the jicama. For the past two weeks, I’ve been addicted to the stuff and, in my opinion, it was just as good juiced as it is in solid form! Though I did have to put it back in the fridge immediately after juicing, because I almost nibbled on a piece. It has a delightful crunch that I miss!

I’ll definitely try the Stevia next time with that recipe! 😉
And you’re right about the calorie counting! Every website I’ve seen says to stop the calorie counting during the juicing and just focus on the “cleansing.”
Oh, Becky your blog made me laugh! You should put less ginger and try apples instead of the grapefruit. I also add Stevia to mine to cover the sour taste. Nice job on making it to Day #2!!! Try drinking more juice throughout the day that way you’re not hungry at night. Don’t worry about the calories just keep juicing the fruits you like and you won’t feel deprived. Apples are great and cheap. Zach sometimes drinks an entire bag for dinner! Keep it up!!
