11 Prayers For Evangelism

Say these prayers for evangelism to ask for the Lord’s boldness, wisdom, and blessing for missionaries and all people sharing the Gospel with those who don’t know Jesus.

The last command that Jesus left His disciples with before He ascended into heaven was to make disciples. That command continues to ring true for all believers, and it is the ultimate goal of evangelism. 

Whether you are a believer who wants to share the gospel, a missionary, or someone who wants to pray for those who are actively sharing the gospel with others, these prayers for evangelism are for you. 

Prayers For Evangelism

1. A Prayer To Stir People’s Hearts For Jesus

Heavenly Father, 

I am grateful for the gift of salvation, and life that is found in Jesus. As a believer, I have seen the wonder working power of Christ in my life, and my desire is for those who do not know Him or have rejected Him to come to faith in Him.

I ask that You stir the hearts of those who are currently living a life apart from Christ. May they come to experience His great love for them, and come to hate the thing that has separated them from Him, their sin. 

I pray for the message of the gospel to be preached to their ears, and at work in their hearts. Help them to see the futility in seeking to live a worldly life that never satisfies and cannot save them from impending judgment. 

I ask that You work in their hearts through Your Holy Spirit. May they see the glory of the gospel, and the preciousness of Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen. 

2. A Prayer To Call Missionaries

Father, 

Thank You for the gospel that has set us free from sin, and given us new life. There are so many out there who are yet to hear this message and know Your power to save. 

I pray not only for laborers who will go out into our community, but who will make disciples and go out to the ends of the earth. May You call and send missionaries to those places where few have gone, and where Your Word is not known. 

I pray for the hearts of those who You have called to be missionaries. May they rely on Your guidance and wisdom to send them where You want to be, and use them as Your vessels. In Jesus’ name, amen. 

3. A Prayer For Boldness & Courage In Sharing The Gospel

Lord, 

You have given me the call to share the gospel and make disciples of all nations. I confess, many times I feel drawn back by fear and focus on my own shortcomings. 

But I am reminded that it is not an eloquent speaker that You seek or a scholar who can answer any question, but obedience from a heart that loves Christ and has experienced His grace for themselves. 

Thank You for granting me Your grace, and saving me through Your Son. As I share the gospel with others, I pray for Your Holy Spirit to empower me with boldness and courage.  Keep me from shrinking back in fear, and help me to rely on Your Spirit. 

Help me to place my confidence in You, knowing that You are with me and that You are the one who saves. Remind me that I am only a vessel and that the power to change a heart, and take it from death to life is in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, amen. 

4. A Prayer For Wisdom In Your Conversation

Lord,

As I set out to share the good news with the lost, I pray for Your guidance and wisdom. In my own strength, I can do nothing, and I can not lean on my own understanding. 

Though I may not know the direction a conversation will take, I know that You are aware of every word that will be spoken, and You already know the outcome of that conversation. 

Knowing this, I ask for Your Spirit to bring me peace during those conversations, and to grant me the words to say. Please give me wisdom and discernment in my conversations with others, and help me to be sensitive to the leading of Your Spirit. 

I pray for my own heart that it will be humble, and share Your truth unashamedly. And I pray for those who hear it, that You would soften their hearts and give them understanding and renewal. In Jesus’ name, amen. 

5. A Prayer For Direction In Who To Share With

Father, 

There are so many people who do not know You. Every day brings an opportunity to share the good news with someone, and to tell them of Your gift of life. 

I confess, many times I don’t know who to share it with, or when to share it with me. I know that there is not a lack of people who are in need of Your salvation, so my earnest prayer is that You would show me who to share it with. 

Whether it is someone in my life that I am close to, or a stranger who I might never see again, I ask for Your guidance and boldness to share the good news with them. 

I pray for a heart that is sensitive to Your guidance, and attentive to those around me. As I share with others, I pray for Your saving power in their lives, and for their salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen. 

6. A Prayer For Opportunities To Arise To Share Jesus’ Love For Them

Dear God, 

Your Word says that our time here on earth is only but a mist, it is here today and gone tomorrow. Forgive me for the times when I have neglected Your call to share the gospel and the love of Christ with others. 

In view of eternity, and the short time we have on earth, I ask for the opportunity to show others Your love and to tell them about Your sacrifice of love for them. 

I pray for those who are destitute, hurting, lonely, and who are lost. I pray for their souls, that they might come to know the true lover of our souls and find life in Him alone. 

Please lead me to encounters and conversations that lead to the gospel. Grant those who hear it a heart to understand, and believe that Christ died on their behalf and that You have raised Him from the dead. In Jesus’ name, amen. 

7. A Prayer For Salvation For Unbelievers

Heavenly Father, 

I was once lost, and You found me. I was blinded by my mind, and You gave me eyes to see its wretchedness. Though I was Your enemy, You sent Your Son to die for me and called me Your friend. 

As I think of those who have not come to faith in Christ, I think of where I once was. I know the miracle of Your mercy and my prayer is that Your mercy would sweep them off their feet, as it did me.

I pray for the gospel to be shared, and to fall on hearts that are ready to receive the seed of Your Word. I ask that You water that seed and allow it to spring up into salvation.

May their souls be saved, and their lives bear the fruit of the internal work that You have done in them. In Jesus’ name, amen. 

8. A Prayer For Overseas Missionaries 

Lord, 

We thank You for Your gracious gifts that You have given each one of us. You have blessed us to be a blessing to others, and today I am especially thinking of the many missionaries who have left their lives behind and are serving overseas. 

I thank You for calling them, and for giving them the hearts to answer Your call. I pray for Your strength to uphold them and for Your love to fill them. Please provide for them in their needs, and equip them continually for the work that You have called them to. 

I pray for those who they will share the gospel with. May they come to know Your love through these missionaries, and turn to You in faith. 

Please grant these missionaries wisdom and guidance as they share the gospel with the local community. Help them to rely on You daily and to see Your hand in the lives of those You have called them to serve. In Jesus’ name, amen. 

9. A Prayer To Not Be Ashamed Of The Gospel 

Gracious God, 

I cannot thank You enough for rescuing me from my sin. You have bought me at a price, and I am Yours. Your Word says that the old self has died, and has risen anew with Christ. So I do not live for myself, but for Christ who died for me. 

In light of this truth, I ask that You grant me a contagious joy and passion to share the gospel. Remind me of the grace that You have shared with me, and help me to share that same grace and truth with others. 

Please remove any sense of fear from my heart. Take away the fear of man, the fear of people’s opinions or what they will think of me, and place in my heart the fear and reverence of Christ. 

Grant me the boldness to share Your gospel, and to do so without shame. Let me not be ashamed of the gospel because it is Your power unto salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen. 

10. A Prayer For The World To Know God’s Love For Them 

Father, 

You have given us the clearest image of Your love for us through Christ. Though He was sinless, He died in the place of sinners. Though He was God, He humbled Himself and took on flesh. He became like us that He might take our place, and free us from our slavery to sin. 

The Scriptures say that there is no greater love than to lay one’s life down for your friends. And Christ showed us the ultimate form of love by going to the cross for our sake. That is not only true for me, but for countless others who might not know You yet. 

My prayer is that Your love displayed through Christ will be evident to the world. Please make Yourself known to them, and remove the veil from their eyes. Give them ears to hear and eyes to see Your goodness and grace. Lead them in Your love, and bring them into Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen. 

11. A Prayer For More Evangelists To Share God’s Word

Lord, 

My heart is heavy for the lost and broken of this world. I think of the many who live daily without hope, and for those who hold onto things that appear meaningful but will fade away with time. 

The time is short, and the need for Your Word to be shared is urgent. Your Word says that the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. You are the Lord of the harvest, please send out more laborers into the harvest fields.

Please equip men and women with the eyes to see the lost, and hearts that are concerned with their eternal destiny. I ask that You equip them and fill them with Your Spirit so that they may point others to Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
