30 Days of Juicing – Day 6

Today was awesome!  Well, except for the wheatgrass.

A hand holdng a bottle of juice.

See, my mom was really worried that I wasn’t getting enough protein, so to ease her mind, I picked me up a single-serving pouch of wheatgrass to put into my juices.  I divided the one package between my breakfast, lunch, and dinner juices and let me tell you…never again.

A bottle of wheatgrass juice.

It literally tastes like grass.  And the taste stays with you…disgusting.  I really had to choke the drinks down.  I can handle drinking celery and cucumber and spinach, but wheatgrass?  No way.  The wheatgrass kind of separated from the rest of the juice, so for lunch and dinner, I put a straw in the middle of the drink, trying to avoid the green.  It didn’t really work.  I dumped out quite a bit of the juices, because I just couldn’t stomach it.  I’m so glad that’s over!

So, the new plan is to add 1 serving of whey protein into my dinner drink.  Hopefully, that will help keep me satiated during the night a little better!

Today was really amazing.  I am full of energy!  I went to church, then straight to the gym.  I spent 30 minutes on the elliptical.  I felt great, but I didn’t want to push too hard (I’ve been reading that you should take it a little bit easier when you’re on a juice fast), so I just took it slow and steady, keeping an eye on my heart rate.  My gym has these awesome cardio cinemas, where they show a movie at the front of a room filled with ellipticals, bikes, and treadmills.  It’s cool and dark and quite relaxing!

And the highlight of my gym trips is always the hot tub.  Today in the hot tub, I met the only surviving chief petty officer and trained flamethrower from World War II.  He had some pretty amazing stories!

I’ve also been sleeping MUCH better!  Before juicing, I would take a small dose of melatonin at night to keep my body in a normal routine, because I have always been a night person, so my natural tendency has been to stay up late at night and sleep in the next morning (which isn’t a good routine to be in when you need to wake up in the morning for work).  In the past few days, I’ve been able to fall asleep easily right when I’m supposed to without the melatonin and I wake up easily with my alarm (and sometimes even earlier) with energy!  That’s pretty miraculous for me!

A refrigerator full of groceries.

And I cleaned out the fridge!  Now it is full of fruits and veggies. The fridge isn’t nearly big enough to hold all of the produce in my house.  I have watermelons on the stove top and a card table overflowing with apples, oranges, and grapefruits.

The Menu

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner: 1 jicama with peel, 3 peeled cucumbers, 2 cups of baby spinach, 4 green apples, 2 oranges, 4 cups of purple grapes, and 1 packet of wheatgrass (ew!)

Weight Loss Since Yesterday: 2 pounds (YAY!  It’s such an amazing feeling to skip an entire number on the scale!  And the weight loss is REALLY motivating!)

Weight Loss Since Day 1: 2.9 pounds

Mood:  Well-rested, full of energy, but definitely still missing food.  Especially pizza…I’ve been craving meat and bread and pizza is the perfect combination of both…

See how the rest of the juicing experiment went:

Thanks for trying, although I didn't even know that wheat grass had protein... I was thinking of silk tofu or the whey protein stuff.

Oh gosh girl, you are awesome for even attempting a juice fast. Go you! Congrats on the weight loss. Keep at it. You're going to feel awesome!

But the wheatgrass, I didn't even know that existed much less was edible. Eeeeww. Sorry I don't think I could do that. But kudos for you at least trying it :)

Hope you and Daniel are having a great weekend!xoAlisha
