1. Birthday Prayer for Son’s Protection

One of our main responsibilities as parents is protecting our children. From the moment that they are born, we have this natural response to care for them, to protect them and to keep them safe.

As much as we would love to keep them from harm all their lives, our reach and ability to do that can only go so far. But God is not limited in His ability to look after, and protect our children from harm, and we have the amazing privilege to ask Him to do so through prayer.

Lord,

On my son’s birthday, I just want to take a moment to thank You for Your kindness and care that You have shown him all his life. I am so grateful that I get to be his parent, and that he is my son. It is a privilege that I never want to take for granted.

Thank You for another year of protection, and for the ability to celebrate his life today. I know that it is not only on his birthday, but every day that is a gift, and I am thankful that I cannot only share his birthday with him but every day in between.

My prayer is that You would continue to surround Him with Your love, and protect him in Your arms. Please provide him with physical protection, when he leaves home, and when he returns, keep him safe, and unharmed.

I ask that You would not only keep him protected from physical harm, but that You would protect him mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well. Protect him from the ideals of this world, and the temptations that it offers.

Please protect him from people who do not care about him, and who will only bring him down in life. Protect him against the deceptions of the enemy, and from his attacks. May he be safely hidden in Your presence, and under Your wings. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2. Prayer for Peace Son’s Birthday

We all would like to have peace in our lives. But the way life works, peace is not something that we can base off of the circumstances around us.

Because our circumstances are ever changing, our peace would be too. But God grants peace that is not dependent on anything but Himself, and He is not only unchanging, but His peace is for all the circumstances of life.

Heavenly Father,

There is nothing quite like knowing and experiencing the peace that You bring. It is a peace that surpasses all understanding, and fills our hearts regardless of the circumstances. It is a peace that the world cannot take away from us, and that is the kind of peace that I pray for my son on his birthday.

Thank You for allowing me to know this peace, and the gift that You have given through Your Son, Jesus. My prayer is that You would fill my son’s heart with that same kind of peace, and that he would seek You, and You alone.

When things in his life feel as though they are overwhelming, I pray that You would lead Him to Your still waters. May he, like David, find rest in Your presence, and know You as his shepherd. May he know what it truly is to be filled, and content in You.

I ask that Your Holy Spirit would fill Him with peace, and that it would affect every area of his life. May that peace be unshakable, and carry him through even the toughest of times in his life. No matter where he finds himself, may he know that all he needs is found in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

As our children grow up they require guidance and help from us. The kind of guidance that they need changes with time, and as they begin to make decisions for themselves, or have life altering choices in front of them, it can be hard to know what to do or what decision to make.

We know from scripture that God is the one who ultimately establishes our steps, even if we have our own plans in mind. One of the most important things that you can pray for your son on his birthday, is that God would guide him through life, and all the decisions that he will face.

Lord,

Where else can we go to find our way in life? Who knows what tomorrow holds, or how our future will look, apart from You? Who holds all the wisdom, and who can advise You? You alone are all wise, and You determine our steps in life.

Today, I want to pray for my son on his birthday, and for all the steps that lie ahead for him. Though we may have our plans or desires for his life, and he has his own, my prayer is that You would lead him into the path that You have set out for him.

I pray for all the decisions that he will need to make in life, and all the crossroads that he will face. Please help him to seek You for wisdom and guidance, and lead him in the way that he should go. Keep him from leaning on his own understanding, and always remind him that You are with him, and walk beside him.

May he live his life for Your glory, and make choices according to that conviction. Please help him to overcome the pressures of the world, and the direction that it is trying to steer him in. May he stand unashamed in the decisions and the path that You lead him in, and always look to You for guidance. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Birthdays are a great occasion to think of all the ways you are thankful for your son and his life. Sometimes when we live through the motions, it is easy to forget that the presence of our loved ones is a gift that we can celebrate and cherish. But birthdays are especially a great time to reflect, and give God thanks for their lives.

Lord,

Not only is this the day that You have made, but it is the day that You brought my son into this world. That day changed my life for the better, and I cannot be more grateful that You chose me to be his parent, and to be a part of his life on this earth.

Thank You so much for another year with him, and for keeping him safe. Thank You for all the little intricacies, and the way You melded him with intention and so much care. May he know, and always remember that he is fearfully and wonderfully made and so immensely loved and cared for.

Though today is his birthday, it feels as though I have received the best gift, and that is him, and his life. He has brought so much joy into my life, and I am grateful that I get to have a front row seat to the life that You have given him. Please bless his path, and guide him all the days of his life.

Thank You for the unique personality that You have given him, and the interests that he is so passionate about. Thank You for his health, and his humor, his laugh, and his love. Thank You for blessing him with another year, and for giving me the privilege to celebrate with him. In Jesus’ name, amen.
